    Hey there

    First of all I will apologize for my possibly bad Englishskills. I am a 15 year old Danish student, who has got tired of my little countrys very limited rescources of good notebookexperts, and now seeks help at this (for me) outlandish forum. So, as told, please bear with my English :)

    My problem

    I am the happy owner of a Acer Aspire 5610Z notebook. I use it primary for study, photoedits and regular internetsurf. My notebooks specifications are as follows;

    1.63gHz processor
    2*512mb DDR2 667mHz RAM
    I run Vista Premium 32bit (Yes, I AM concerned about the 3.5gb RAM limit)
    Lots of other unexiting specifications

    I am clearly NOT satisfied with my RAM, and really feels the problem when working with Photoshop CS3 and Elements 6. I am quite a perfectsionist when it comes to a smooth work and a No-Error-System is vital for me. Therefore, I dayli run several cleeningtools, which demands lots of RAM capacity. I am going to upgrade the RAM in near future, but have heard lots and lots of examples around the internet, where people have had serious problems by adding more than 2gbs of RAM. Now I need to know; Is it in ANY way possible to add 4 gbs of RAM into my Acer Aspire 5610Z notebook?
    Also, I am curious about whether it is possible to change the graphics in the notebook, but first of all, it is the RAM problem which is my concern

    Thanks for reading my long thread :)

    From what I can tell, the 5610Z has the 943GML chipset, which supports only up to 2GB of RAM. And no, the graphics card cannot be upgraded.

    Since we seem to have conflicting info here, download and run CPU-Z. What chipset does it list?

    You linked to the 5610. The 5610z is a different machine.

    Thanks for the link.

    However, I was well aware of this page and has downloaded the program and made the scan before your posting. The problem is, that when you try to install those RAMs, you can only install up to 2gb - anything over this will make your notebook refuse to boot Windows, and you will meet a black screen. It is this problem I am concerned about, and will like to hear some proved methods to solve the problem, or someone who has made the process on this model without problems. But thanks for your help anyway, it came very fast :)

    If you have the 943GML, there is NO way to get around it. Between that and the fact you could not even boot tells me there is a hardware limitation to 2GB.

    Which RAM cards are compitable with my notebook - Is it just the ones that has the following spec.;

    PC2-5300
    667mHz
    soDIMM

    Or are there any other specs that the RAM must have, before it is compitable with my notebook?

    5300/5400 RAM sticks will be just fine. Get 2 sticks of 1GB, as this is usually cheaper than 1 stick of 2 GB. Obviously if a 2GB stick is cheaper, go with it.

    Just make sure it's 200 pin and soDimm to fit the slots on your laptop.

    How many times do we have to say it will not work...? You can try, but its going to be a waste of your money. It is well documented that your chipset can only handle 2GB.
