Hello,
Was just wondering if anyone knows if Acer has a bios for the 9650m GT DDR3
Any help greatly appreciated
-
Hello,
I have the same question, for the same problem.
Have you find a issue
Ken -
As far as I know, Acer never issued a GeForce 9650M GT GDDR3 graphics card. Therefore, they would not have a video BIOS for a card they never issued.
-
-
Not so, reylby. The BIOS may be similar, but the Aspire 4720G and 5920G use different components internally - there's no guarantee that the two are at all similar.
Interesting upgrade link, though. Too bad they got a 1GB DDR2 9650M GT; that gets beaten by the 512MB GDDR3 9600M GT in most benchmarks and games. -
Yes, there is no guarantee. But show me, please, the difference in the internal components, except the display.
Here's another Chinese http://benyouhui.it168.com/thread-934436-1-3.html in Acer Aspire 4720zg replaced graphic card GeForce 8400M GS by GeForce 9600M GS.
And the video card with chip G96-600-A1 works, and with chip G96-600-C1 - is not present.
Еxactly the same picture on my Acer Aspire 5920g. -
I've compared the system block diagrams for the 4720G and 5920G, and the two are indeed very similar except for the on-board audio chip and more importantly, the clock generator chip.
That clock generator is used by the system to calibrate the timings for the FSB, PCI bus, and other internal buses.
Muck with that, and your system is bricked.
It's still a risk; I can't honestly advise you to flash the BIOS for a different notebook onto yours, no matter how similar they are.
Go ahead at your own peril. -

Hi,
I have an Asus 9650M GT 1GB DDR2 on Acer Aspire 5720 netebook, and seems to have a driver problem for WIN7.
I read the Acer 9650M GT 1GB DDR2 don`t have this issue on WIN7, anyone can give me a advice (links, posts) if I can flash my bios video card with an Acer bios video card, and how to do it?
Thanks for any help. -
How is it that the 9600M GS and the 9650M GT work on the Aspire 4720 and Aspire 5720, but not on the Aspire 5920? They all use almost identical components and very similar BIOS. Is it ONLY the 9600M GT which doesn't work in the Aspire 5920?
-
I honestly have no clue. If I was a guessing man, I'd say it's because the 5920G was pretty much the first Acer notebook to feature MXM - thus, its BIOS might be heavily clamped down to only allow a handful of the current generation cards.
-
-
You can always try to change the vendor in the bios with nibitor... first extract the bios with gpu-z and than change the vendor code to the one acer uses. I'm at work so I cannot check the vendor code.
-
Thanks. -
Will this work in an Acer Aspire 5920G? Thanks. -
Yes.
But price:US $229.99+shipping:$12.99! Too much. -
Will 9600M GS give the "ERROR: MXM Structure not found or invalid" message during POST and have the 30-second delay in Aspire 5920G?
-
No. With the uncompatible video card - loading system does not go. Simply black screen.
-
I haven't seen any ddr3 versions of this card on sale anywhere only seen the ddr2 1gb version.
-
9650M GT, GDDR3 -
Doesn't say GDDR3 anywhere in that eBay listing aside from the specs that were copied verbatim from Notebookcheck.net.
That's still a 1GB DDR2 model. -
The seller wrote, that the frequency of memory 800Mhz. Imho, it is ddr3.
-
The sellers don't seem to know all the time what is what, they tried to tell me the geforce 8600m gt they sold me was ddr3 because it was 800mhz lol. Which was clearly wrong.
-
How would a 9650M GT DDR2 compare with a 9600M GS DDR3? Also, would they both work perfectly in an Acer Aspire 5920G?
-
Since both are based on the same GPU core (the 9650M GT is just higher-clocked than the 9600M GS), I'd honestly go with the 9600M GS and overclock it.
Since no one's tried it, no one knows. MXM upgrades are always tricky things, adventurous territory. -
Anyone still struggling with the bios for the 9650?
If anyone is interested and WILLING to try this out. I modded a bios from the 9600m gt (acer vendor code and nVidia subvendor code, same as original 9600m gt) to be recognized as a 9650m gt. For safety I left the clocks stock for the 9600m gt.
Feel free to check the bios and see for yourself. I simply changed the type of card and put in the acer vendor specs. If this bios works without problems you can simply change the clocks yourself with nibitor.

I give absolutely NO GUARANTY if you break your card nor am I responsible.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
hello, i'm having the same problem...i want to install a 9650m gt on my aspire 5920g. until now i've updated the motherboard's bios with the one from acer's site... v813 but still nothing...when i connected the vcard for the first time the computer started everything ok until a tried to instal the driver...then black screen and black has remained ever since...so...how come it worked at first? have i damaged the card since it started and then black screen or i need a new bios for the vcard what should i do??
thanks a lot! -
Still it is necessary to edit two files(ListDevices.txt and nvac.inf) from an instal packet of the driver nVidia. -
When I installed 9650M gt to my laptop I had to mod my gpu heatsink because it was desinged for 8600M gs which is as 8600M gt based on G84M chip which is produced in 80nm process. -
-
and so you say that it will work?? this is the problem? no need for bios update and stuff??...now i'm trying this ...tnx
-
-
When I first installed the 9650m gt to my laptop latest driver version was 197 or so as far as I can remember and then I had the all known powermizer trouble and artifacts all over my screen so I had to disable powermizer by modding driver registry...
But with version 25x powermizer issue was solved and since then I do not have any artifacts or other issue with my card which would require any kind of modding... -
Still having problems...i did the thing with the plate (i've made one from a aluminium blade from a cpu's radiator) but still nothing....the pc starts no problem but i can't see enything on the screen...in fact i can see something ....but the screen is very very dark like if it was turned off... what can i do? is it posible that i've damaged vcard first time when i got it in without that plate for cooling...because the first time i've got it in, the screen was ok for a few minutes then ...when i've tried to install the driver ...black screen ever since...
tnx... -

@ stig53,
This sounds like your screen inverter has failed.
Look at the service manual for replacement guide.
Ebay for part.
If you get a display from external monitor - your GPU good. -
Hi!Where can i find an acer vbios for this card?
-
But 9650m GT with ddr3 does not exist. Only with ddr2.
Attached Files:
-
-
You can download still it from http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/
9650mgt has only one bios - from ASUS.
9650mgt with a bios from Acer does not exist.
What artefacts? -
@reylby
Dear Reylby i wish to install the lastest driver for the 9650m GT (260.99)
I have an Acer Aspire 5920G win7 x64. (currently use 190.92 modded driver)
Now you mention: Still it is necessary to edit two files(ListDevices.txt and nvac.inf) from an instal packet of the driver nVidia.
Can you tell me a little bit more about how that is done? (for the 260.99 win7 x64)
Thanks

I am pleased to inform you that this method worked! thanks alot.
I just hope these drivers are better -

@ Arminator and Reylby,
It's seems that both of you are reporting that the 9650M GT works without any powermiser problems. I.E. meaning there is no single flicker at the clock change of the vid card. If i understood this right, it is good news and thankyou.
I thought the other main issue was getting the driver to install. I believed the message,
"The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware",
was the problem encountered when trying to install driver for the 9650M GT.
@ Arminator,
It's brillliant if you have managed to get 258.xx to install without problems. (Plus no powermiser isses)
@ Reylby,
I looked at your pdf document to get the Nvid website drivers to install. I understand the principle of the process, and would attempt it myself. (It's most helpful).
I'm still confused though. E.g., if a fresh install of windows had been made, there would be no existing video card drivers installed. Most likely the 'Standerd VGA Adaptor' process, would be in place. Then if you tried to install the Nvidia drivers, would not you have to exit after the message:
"The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware",
This is my dilema, because I have the a few versions of the Nvidia website drivers saved to hard disc. However I do not know how to edit the ListDevices file and the nvac information file, of these driver versions. As far as I have tried, I can not open the drivers to explore the files heirachy. If I attempt to open the Nvidia package, it goes into auto install mode.
I can access the files "ListDevices file and the nvac" if the driver is installed on the the laptop. Yet after a fresh install the drivers will not be there to edit.
Thanks,

Just try to do so, as it is written in the guide. -
@ Reylby,
I have re-read the guide, and I see I had forgotten the point that the driver files do become installed.
I think what confused me to forget that, was another issue.
I had thought, it would be better if the driver could be altered before it is installed. Then the moddified information files could saved and the modded Nvidia driver written to a disc.
The reason for that is in the re-sale of the laptop. Were you ever to sell the laptop you had the 9650 in, you would have to explain the issue with the driver. To the average person, this task would be impossible.
The option for the laptop re-sale would be you would need to remove the 9650M GT, and put in another GPU card like and 8600M GT. Then anyone can install those drivers.
A further alternative might be to download the driver from the Acer website since that driver has access to the nvac.inf, (for modification). (Thats access to the driver before installation.) You could then write your modified driver to a disc and sell it along with your laptop, if you ever sold it. Oddly thought the Acer website driver does not contain the ListDevices file. (It seems it does not need it.)
Anyway do you know how to advise if a user is using Vista 32 bit, please?
U6b36ef. -
Download the driver 9650M GT from nvidia.com for its OS.
Further - under the guide. -
Oh yeah. I interpreted the,
"DEV_064C&SUBSYS etc",
reference to 64 as related to the OS. After looking again, I see it's directly code for the device.
1. Did you find the powermiser issues all gone, with your installation? (Everything working fine?) Taangberg reported so over on 'The Acer Guy' thread, Morris GPU Upgrade. Arminator said so too, but that was a different laptop, and the 258.xx driver installed straight away there. [I want to be sure before I buy].
2. What GPU temps are you getting, (without undervolting)?
U6b36ef
P.S. I didn't quite understand your point about 'theory-it's good'. I wouldn't buy a 9650 unless I knew exactly what to do, now since the information is available. Neither do I doubt your reported method. Like I allready said - "(It's most helpful)". -
2. 575MHz -
Anyone have any news on what temperatures to expect with a 9650M GT?
