Ok, i just want to find out how far you have managed to push your X1600 on the 8204. With the latest Omega drivers and the ATI Tool thing i got mine to go up to 525/505. Anyone beat this? I think i can raise that by a bit but wanna give it a break for a bit and just play at these clocks for a while. Get the stability feel...

Did you do any benchmarking at those speeds?

Ummm... i prefer die-hard gaming experience over benchmarking. lol. those things lieeeee.... BF2 at max settings never lies. :D
no, i havent done any benchmarking. but this thing called: scan for artifacts... its included in the ATI tool. i use it. no artifacts. if i raise it even one more Mhz... it gets screwed up.

Umm... google "omega ATI drivers"... go to their home page. download the 22mb file (latest version of omega drivers"
then google "ATI tool". its a beta version so use at your own risk.
download it... should be very small in size. i think its like just a bit over a megabyte.
You probably cant use the same program for ATI as you did for nVidia cards... ;)

I've got a 5570 series with the x1600 in it. but it seems tt i can't overclock using the slider in ATI tray tool. when i hit the 'ok' or 'apply' button, it swtiches back to stock settings. How can i overcome this problem and overclock my x1600.
Btw, ATI tray tools show my GPU bios settings are highter than the omega drivers. I ran 3dmark05 on demo version and got 2828 using omega drivers.

Judging from what you said, you are having a problem thats very similar to what happened to me. Download ATI Tool... not the ATI tray tools... the tray tools dont work. even though the names may sound similar... they are two different programs.
At first i thought that tray tools dont work because omega drivers dont support the X1k series... but the newest release supports the X1600. so there is another reason... dont know what.
read my message a couple posts above this one. it outlines the process of geting everything you need to OC you card.

Mmmmm... thats like comparing a nissan to a BMW 7 series...
Desktop cards are more powerful than mobility cards as it is... on top of that, X1600 is a higher-end mainstream card whereas the 7800 is a full out high-end card... You cant compare the two. X1600 is comparable to 7600... X1800 would match 7800.

oh yah, Vlad when I'm installing the omega driver, I've encounter a missing file which omega is replacing. off hand can't remember the exact filename, but i google it and found the description to be some link file. could this be the reason why I can't o/c my x1600? Did u encounter this? sorry for not giving the exact file name. I'll take it dwn when i try again. thanks!

    Hmmm... Here is the thing...
Omega drivers heavily rely on Catalyst drivers. They use similar files and code strings. Sometimes, when you are installing Omega drivers, the setup program tries to install files which already exist (because you have catalyst). The setup program asks you if it can overwrite them and you should always say yes.
If you want to avoid this problem, do the following. Uninstall any graphics-related drivers or components from the "Add/Remove Programs" utility in the Control Panel. Delete everything that has the word ATI in the name. Then restart your computer and install Omega drivers. This way, you most likely wont encounter any problems. Also, when the setup program asks you if your card is a mobile version, say yes. Or it will screw thigns up. Then download and install ATI Tool (NOT TRAY TOOLS!!!! lol) and OC to your pleasure.

Im pretty sure i heard somewhere that you woid your warranty only if you do any hardware changes. Overclocking via software should not void anything... technically... or am i wrong?

yeah, the "find max clocks" button does that for me as well. i just find the clocks manually. its more fun anywayz.
did u remember to remove any previous drivers before installing the new omega?

try overwirting the default drivers without removing them, same thing happen. the 'atiicdxx.ini' file could not be replace. gone ahead with the install and run ati tool to o/c. put the 'set the clock after slider' to on and yeah... my screen becomes jerky and crashes again. could anyone shed some light on this matter? thanks in advancem, guys!

5238 in 3dmark05 is just crazy for a mobility X1600. What resolution did your run 3dmark in? What was the stock score? I managed to get another 1200 marks when overlcocking my Geforce 6800 in my desktop. Went from 3750 to just shy of 5k.

Any chance you can publish your 3DM05 scores?

It's easy - just log onto the Futuremark Online Results Browser, click on project manager, find your kick-ass project, check the "Published" option, then the Update button at the bottom of the page. I'll be able to find it from there, because it will be the only Radeon Mobility X1600 score higher than mine :)

I wouldn't necessarily say that Drio - Vlad may have faster RAM than my system (667 vs. 533MHz), and has probably played around with more driver revisions than me as well.. That's why I want to see the ORB data, so I know what I need to do to regain the top spot :p
