Is any one actually happy with their acer notebooks?
From what ive read its all heat and cheap plastic build.
How do you think all this makes me feel?? Im about to buy Aspire5672wlmi and i got doubts about that... help!!!

Umm, well their build quality is average, if your worried about that, then invest in an Asus system which cost a little more, but are built much better.
My S96J, a lower end barebones, feels very, very, solid. -
No doubt about it, the Acer demands more attention than other brands. It's mainly the crappy software they ship with it that brings the most long term headaches.
The build quality seems fine to me. On the 5672, the cooling is not well sorted out, but for the $1000 I saved over comparables, it was worth figuring out the cooling (see other threads). -
The things ive read about Acer make me think of buying something else.
things like: screen panel faliin off, heat issue, cheap plastic, other things fall off and hardware failure.
This is the best laptop i could find in my town (decent gfx) and i cant buy online so -
Also, keep in mind that people generally post only when they're having a problem. You don't usually see a lot of people posting things like - "hey everyone, just wanted you to know that everything's going great with my laptop."
Aside from reviews and how-to's, people usually just post about problems, thereby possibly skewing your perception. -
I have an 8204 and I like it a lot.
-
I am using an Acer 17'' lcd monitor and it's pretty solid..
-
overall I've had very little in the way of problems with my 8204, only current issue is a blue screen sometimes on boot, but reboot solves it (seems to be maybe something to do with the DVD/CD Drive, if I boot with the tray out so far it's worked every time).

Generally, I've had a good experience with my 5672. However, I will probably be returning it soon and exchanging it for an ASUS (F3J series). Why ? Because in general, the Aspire line is of poor quality, and this model is no exception. For example, I already have three dead pixels after three months of usage. Keep in mind that I carry this puppy with me everywhere I go. If it's going to be sitting on a desk most of the time, I wouldn't worry about it.
The build quality is not horrible, but I wouldn't definitely recommend going for an IBM or ASUS if you're planning on carrying it with you on a daily basis.
Hope this helps.
Cheers. -
I know people who have Acer Notebooks, the build was pretty decent actually, the only thing that they didnt like was that it was slow ... but their specs werent up to the par anyways.
Basically you get what you pay for. -
hey everyone, just wanted you to know that everything's going great with my laptop.

mine is fine too... but that is to be expected seeing how I am a notebook guru ^^

<<<<< nooo look under my name i think im the notebook guru
btw i love my acer and everything is going awsome with it. -
If you want to see good review for the 5672 laptop. go to new-egg and research there. The only negative about that is those reviews ony go from people owning the laptop 1 week to a month. As for my brothers acer 5672. the heat is not bad personally. I also purchased him a antec laptop cooler when it sits on the desk while playing games. My only gripe is the ati drivers are not officially supported by ati and Acer driver upgrades are horrible. I may upgrade them to OMEGA if I feel brave. As for the Casing, it does feel a bit cheap (monitor flexes a bit when opening). Just baby it allitle more and it should be fine. If I was to buy another laptop, I may consider Acer, but only if I can go to a store and check it out. I would also buy with Nvidia graphics (personal preference). Ohh yeah, another small negative is the x1600 memory is downclocked. Not to bad because the price of the laptop is a steal. Good luck with you choice

My Acer is built OK. My main problem is ACPI, which they've managed to make work under Windows using the drivers on the driver CD. The other problem is that the embedded controller in my 3623 is slow. I've had to tell my O/S to turn down the polling interval.

HI,
So far I love my 5672WLMi. I have had no problems. Yeh, the heat is a bit strange compared to other laptops I have used, but no big deal. I will probably invest in a cooler pad.
It does everything I wanted at a GREAT price. Mine was $1000 after rebate with 2GB of memory, 120GB hard drive, ATI 1400 graphics, 1.66GHz duo processor, 667 MHz FSB, bluetooth, etc.
I love having the built in card reader...works great. Screen is great....no bad pixels (at least yet and I have had it for several months).
Quality is not bad....no issues. Sure I watch what I do with it carrying it around, but I did that with all my laptops in the past.
For general business/personal use that I do (no gaming), it is perfectly fine for me.
First ACER I have owned (previous were Dell and Gateway) and so far I think I made the right decision. -
i like my acer 5112 and i am happy with it
-
I have owned a few and they have all been great. My first one came to me about a year ago, so they might have been worse a couple of years ago.
-
This is rather interesting reading, considering that one of the most reliable laptops I have ever owned is actually an Acer. Back in my school days, where everyone bought either an Acer or a Dell, I have never heard a single bad thing about Acers, contrary to the Dell laptops (which are at the moment much more solidly built and reliable as well).
The next argument has been used thousands of times before and in my opinion still remains valid: Anyone with problems will post their grief all over the internet. Considering Acer is one of the top selling brands today, it is very likely for someone to run into people with problems. -
I had a previous Gateway, which was cheaply built, and my son has a Dell, which has been sent in for repairs 3 times, runs hot enough to cook on, fans run as loud as a leaf-blower, and is a real lemon. My current Acer 8204 is fast, flawless, quiet, and cool running, all with a 2GHz Dual Core processor. Gaming is great, and I've had absolutely no problems over the 8 months I've owned this. I'd absolutely recommend it to friends!
-
Acer's quality is not that great. I have AS5004 only for a few month (started from March) and now the battery can just last for 1 and half hours (it was 3 hours). I also have two small cracks near the hinge. I contacted Acer via emails but no responses so I fixed the problems myself with some good superglue.
-
I've always been happy with an Acer.
My old Travel Mate 528 (P3 800MHz!) is still running fine on A/C. (though the lithium battery seemed to have died, ah well, its too heavy for carrying around anyway)
I'm quite happy with my Aspire 5672WMLi actually. It does most the jobs I want it to do. (I guess it doesn't really matter who makes the laptop, but rather how you treat your laptop.) -
I've owned my 5672wlmi for a couple of months now. I take it to work every day and it's been a real solid machine so far. The build quality is just fine... it's a very thin laptop, so it's not bullet proof.
This is my first Acer product so I can't speak for any other models, but as far as the 5672wlmi... it's a super machine at an unbeatable price. -
Build quality of my Acer is easily better than the build quality of any of my previous machines:
Compaq Presario 1685
NEC Versa TXi
eMachines M6807
Gateway 7405GX
Bundled software is of similar quality to what was supplied with those machines. The screen is a bit dim, but other than that the specification is top-notch for the money. Everything worked well out of the box (with the exception of my Bluetooth cordless phone, but that's really little more than a gimmick anyway).
Oh, and my machine runs fast (I don't game a lot, but Far Cry runs happily with almost maxxed settings, and Microsoft Flight Simulator X runs smoothly with fairly high settings as well - even dual screen at 1680 x 1050 pixel resolution on the LCD, and 1280 x 1024 on the second monitor). It also doesn't run hot at all, even when working hard - I notice warm air from the machine, but nowhere on the machine itself ever gets much above body temperature. -
gweilo8888 you got to run dual screen with Flight sim X on some high settings. I've read that this game has diped the fps on better n faster desktop systems. Are you sure you dont work for Acer

My 5102 HD audio and 56K modem died after installing the new Xpress 200 chipset on ATI's site. (which is a shame because it improves 3D images alot, though it exposes a more advanced graphics flaw on the 5102) Its probably just a BIOS problem like the memory crashes so many people get, but im not sure Acer will ever update the BIOS so im probably going to return it.
The audio and modem driver did install by itself 4 days later but still. WTF?
OH MY GOD!!!acer
