I am getting an error stating i have a bad image file.

I do have the Systm and recovery discs...I am just wondering if I can repair this problem with the discs.

I don't want to do a complete install and lose everything.

is there an option of a partial os install when I use my System disc. That way my files could put in a folder.

You can't repair it without the retail disk. If you had a retail disk you could boot form DVD and chose appropriate option (there's one that's about repairing non-booting system- I just don't remember how is it called).

As for eRecovery- in some versions there's an option that allows you to restore only the system partition without doing anything with the rest of partitions however I've never tested it and I wouldn't trust it so backing up your data before attempting it is highly recommended.

Acer probably sent you a recovery disk. By retail disk I mean a disk you get when you buy a box copy of Windows.
