can pretty much put me on the list :) (wife's toy)

our cinebass(less) has been out for a while (no bass), so while disassembling the laptop yesterday, i've noticed that the tiny foamy speaker(?) on the right (once the panel above the keyboard is out) has dipped out a bit, so i guided it back in.
turned it on and tested some songs, the bass was trying hard, but sounded like somebody had uncontrollable farts. that stopped soon and we had no bass again.
i remember reading that these units were quick to fail. any tips/tricks/recommendations?

Every acer has a service manual and within that is the FRU (which you correctly identified).

The service manuals in full can be hard to find but the FRUs tend to be easier, a lot of them are listed on mk-electronic.com.

first i would like to say this thread this awesome, it has very useful information about upgrading gpu and cpu upgrade's,

    My first few qestion's are.

1st. will this laptop support MXM-A Mobile 5650 and Mobile 6770?
2nd. will this laptop support Q9000 series like Q9100/X9100/QX9300?
3rd. where do you buy MXM-A Mobile 5650 and Mobile 6770?

now for my spec's and temps and my overclock

    Intel T6600 2.20/2mb/800 load temp 58/56
    4gb 2x2gb DDR3 1066
    WD Black 250gb sata 3.0
    Nvidia GT 240M 625/1375/850 load temp 55c

my temps are so low because i removed the white wire on the fan, so it runs full speed all the time, which gives me the lower temps, which is fine by me.

    Thanks

    Hello there :)

Do you want me to add you on the owners list? :)

First, for MXM and GPUs look at this thread:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/396320-acer-mxm-models-cards.html

Well, you could check with eBay, but be carefull who you do business with.

And about the CPU, I do have a Quad Core CPU. It is basiclly a Q(X)9200 with unlocked MP, which means it is a ES. Possible overclock to 3.00Ghz, I have to check with cooling system on this laptop. However, I have not tried it yet, and going to do it tonight. I just recived my laptop and currently doing some benchmarks to see if it is stable and if everything is fine before any update or upgrade.

I will most likely be able to confirm if a Quad core works with our 5739Gs in 12 hours. I'll also be the first one :) Have not yet found anyone with 5739G and Quadcore in it.

Your tempratures are very good actually. Isin't the FAN loud? I can't do that on my laptop tou, my laptop is on for 24/7 which means also when I'm sleeping. So I don't want a FAN spinning like crazy just for a download or when I listen to music.

Feel free to ask any questions :)

I were able to get my HP (dv5 series, known for heat issues) idle at 29/28C. I'll be dissapointed if the Acer does not go low as that after my modifications. ah also, I have not done any FAN mod :D

Okay, I got my 5739G up and running. It is a awesome machine but feels awfully slow. That must be because I'm used to have SSD and 8GB RAM in all my machines. This did come with Vista, I'm now as soon as finished this post going to do a clean install of Windows 7 and do some benchmarks with stock parts and try the Quad core. This is going to be a long night! :D I did really like the quality and all other stuff. The sound is much better then my HP but not hear as good as my Qosmio X300. The webcam is also very very good, as my HPs. One thing I did not like is that webcam have no light so you'll never know if it is on or not. Also, I hate that the lid is not going any futher back then half way.

This is my first Acer, and I'm liking it so far, I'll do some benchmark and see how this does under havy ussage now. As far as I can tell it idles a bit higher then my HP. GPU is now at 44C as I'm writing this post. The palmrest and computer overall is also warm as my HP. My ASUS had icecold palmrest feature, it never overall became hot.

I'll add some benchmarks to post 1.

half-way? make sure there are no wires (i had to disassemble the lcd on Monday and forgot to tuck the wires properly at first) that prohibit it from going a bit more (it should retract about 3/4 or a bit less). why did it come with vista? lol

It is OK. My ASUS also was this way.. I'm going to disassemble it when I get my new antennas for WiFi. I don't know why it came with Vista, Win7 upgrade discs did also follow but I have Windows 7 Ultimate license. It is not a big deal..

I bought new antennas, 3 pack. Seller says those give much better range, I want to belive but I'm tbh sure they don't make a diffrence. I'm upgrade to Intel 6300 with 3 antennas. I'll compare against my HP, I also have 6300 in my HP with 3 antennas.

Before installing Windows 7 btw, I'm updating to unlocked BIOS...

Three antennas don't make any difference compared to two antennas unless you have a 450mbps capable router in which case you're capable of achieving this speed.
Intel 6300 is sort of future-proof because of that and if you are willing to spend some serious money on a Linksys E4200 you are going to see the difference.

I'm not at the speed tbh, I'm at the range my firend. In my kitchen I'm not able to surf with a 5100. Connected with 1 bar but no internet.. But with my HP (6300 and 3 antennas) I'm able to connected with 3 bars, and surf :)

you'll have to take the whole thing apart, since the cable is attached to the screen :( if you need disassembly instructions, i can email it to you. it's not hard at all, just be careful with how much torque you use to fasten the screws.

nah - I'll do that as soon as I get my antennas. It is not a big deal, I have taken bunch of laptops apart, it'll be fine :) But I'll let you know if I need some help :) I'm now installing drivers, some benchmarks will come soon!! Did you ever run 3dMark06 or 11 on your 5739G?

It's more dependent on a router/AP than on a client but Intel 5100 is a constant source of trouble so 6300 will undoubtedly perform better.

And my new Acer did came with Intel 5100. So, I'm upgrading to 6300, and when I first have started, I can also take the screen apart and add a 3th antenna :)

take a video or take pictures on how to dissemble the screen. im interested.
Also my cpu idles at 35C without any mods. so with mods I think I can take it down lower. Havent received my 8435 yet tho.
6770M idles at 55-58 and 68-72C on load

I recently replaced my fan with a sunon one. Sunon works much better.

You don't have bluetooth either? That is quite wired because we got all the indicatiors, but when I press the touch button it says hardware is missing... however, another thing to add :D

Okay guys, I have a update for you:

My extreme/quad core CPU did not work in this laptop. I'm stuck with a blank screen. I mean no lightup on screen All other lights come on, windows does not boot, fan is spinning laptop is getting warm. I'm still checking a bit around, but for now it does look like it does not accept the 45W CPU at all.

Please add my to the owner's club, i am perfectly happy with that :)

the fan is not really that loud, its quiet to me

also the fan does not bother me, i would rather have a nice cool running gaming laptop then a hot quiet one.I have not tried any game's yet but i play wow on it here and there and it looks pretty good, i might put sc2 on there and see how she does, and cnc3 and some older games as well, mine did not have bluetooth, for the GT240M i made a back planet for the ram, which helps the ram :p

here are my 3dmark06 scores just for the gpu

    SM 2.0 3190
    HDR/SM3.0 3136

    i am running Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit

anything else you guys would like me to run, also i am figuring out a way to o/c the cpu. i might pick up a P8600 ES off ebay for around $50 unless some has a better idea. and a qiuck qestion dont ES simples have unlocked multiplier?

It depends on every ES.. Well, my ES Quad did just refuse my laptop to start... I'm going off for a T9900. The best option available, for now.

I said you would need to mod the bios at the VERY least.

I have the 'modified' BIOS at first page here. I'm going to look more in to it now. I just tried off and it did not work. It is not a big deal. I'm glad I tried it actually, the state of Thermal Paste were awefull!! My idle tempratures fell with 4-5Cs. There was no dust inside tou..

I got the old CPU in, reinstalling Windows 7.

Agh, I also removed modem, I have never used it and I don't like having things I don't use..

I tried to replace the CPU with the e8435 45 watt version and just like Tunay it didn't work. I got a blank screen and it turned off. I feel like its more of a heat issue as I heard my go the loudest for the first time. I heard it go loud when I'm testing new parts or something with it being open and all but this time it was extremely loud. I'll do some more tinkering and see if I'm right.

You have the 90W PSU right? Maybe we should try it with 120W. Not that it will work as I have tried every method with and without battery.. The only thing I can think about is the BIOS is limiting the power draw or something.

But our cases are diffrent my friend, my FAN didn't spin like crazy but as the laptop got warm it did spin up then go back down again. Only the ring around 'power' button lighted up and the battery (when it was plugged in) and power indicatior.

Don't worry akbisw, we'll figure this out :)

Ah also before I forget, I have replaced the DVD drive with BluRay and it works :) Just to let you know :) The standard dvd rom felt for somereason very cheap, the bluray drive I got looks so much better! :)

How much was the bluray BTW. That's awesome and all but I have grown to use internet to get Hd content. But I will certainly look into bluray as pc games might come in blurays one day.

I changed it from the laptop in my signature :) From my heavly modified HP dv5 series laptop :)

I'll not lie to you, I have never ever used a BluRay disc in this laptop, but it may be usefull one day if I'm over at my girlfriend's and we want to watch a movie or two or three.. :D I replaced the 'cover' thing and you can't actually see it from outside because it's looking just as it did before :D

I have been thinking of picking up a blu-ray to have one, but at the same time, what is the ponit. i am at 50/50

whats funny is, my friend gave me this laptop, because it just quit on him, and i had it sitting on my desktop for about 2 months, this is after i bought a dell e1705 for $99 and go 7900gs for $149.99 off ebay,

we'll while i was waiting on my video card for my dell, i was like lets play with the acer, and i was doing a blind flash, and before i put even put my usb flash drive in the usb port's guess what, one of the usb ports was grounding out the whole computer pins were bent touching mental, so i fixed them, and i turned it on and it booted good as new, i was like SOB, lol

so now i have a dell e1705 with a new 7900gs sitting here doing nothing.

but i might sell the dell and pick up a 6770m just to have more gpu power :D

This made me actually laugh :D

I bought this laptop because I got it for cheap money, and because I wanted something else then my HP to test my Quad Core on. But I did actually like it. I'm going to buy off RAM sticks, SSD and Intel 6300 to start with. I have 8GB RAM kit from G.SKILL but those are sitting in my ASUS which i permanent connected to my TV. I don't want to mess with that setup. Agh, and I need to buy a new Turkish layout keyboard, this english layout is driving me crazy, the worst thing is to have the half enter, dear god.

A backlit keyboard would be nice :D

And just for your information, if you haven't repasted your laptop do it. The paste Acer uses is actually worse then toothpaste. My idle tempratures are about 4-5C lower with Noctua NT-H1.

we'll am glad lol, now the fun part starts of trying to sell it for $250. hopefully the screen help me gets that price its a 1920x1200

also you guys will be happy to know i found the PLL for this motherboard SLG8SP513VTR

i used setfsb but when i changed it my notebook locks up, so after reading more online you need a unlocked bios to use this, the PLL+unlocked=cpu overclockable

just though you might like to know that :)

You know, I spent more then 1 hour eariler today because simply the method written over at Acer BIOS modding thread is not working. What I can do for you, just because it is you, I can upload the files I used about 9 hours ago to flash my BIOS. What you need to do then is just to create the bootable USB (linked page 2) and then write a commant I will give you and not do anything more, it will automaticlly flash your BIOS.

Let me know if you are intrested!
