I'm VERY close to picking up the Acer Aspire 1681wLmi with the following specs:

    Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition; Intel® Pentium® M Processor 715 (1.50GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 400MHz FSB); 512MB (256/256) DDR333 SDRAM; 80GB hard drive; integrated DVD-Dual drive (DVD+/-RW); 15.4" WXGA (1280 x 800) TFT display with Acer® Crystal Bright Technology; Intel® 855GME chipset with integrated graphics; 802.11b/g WLAN, 10/100 LAN, V.92 modem

Im planning to use this for the next few years for college.. so about 2-3 years.. will this computer be very outdated by then? Will i still be able to use future programs such as Microsoft office using the Pentium M- 1.5 w/ integrated graphics? Please let me know.. thanks

Thats pretty good for $1700 Canadian, although if you plan to play any games, or do any graphics stuff, I'm sure you know dedicated graphics would be an improvement.

I'm sure it will be fine, just as long as the gaming is not too intensive, which would show its good for your games.

Im using Acer Aspire 1681WLMi, its pretty good notebook. I finish my final year major in programming and multimedia. I never had any problem with it. Upgraded to 1 gig ram. Mine with ATI 9700 mobility radeon, DVDRW DL and 60 gig harddisk. Other will be the same. I flash my DVDRW to DVDRW DL (Double Layer). Compare to some other notebook (dell) my notebook get better signal for Wi-Fi.

I play Battlefield 1942, Need for Speed Underground 2 and Unreal Tournament 2004.
Battery wise its ok, can go up to 3 – 4 hours and depend how u use it.

The Acer 1681 is a great notebook, I've have mine for about 5 months now and it works like a charm. I like it so much that I picked one up for a friend of mine and she is enjoying the use of it. She's new to getting on the net and having a computer (especially a laptop) but she's enjoying using her laptop too.

Her model is slightly different than mine, 1681LCi so it doesn't have the widescreen, card reader, or the 9700 VC but for her it works great. I especially like tinkering with it since the last while I've been getting it up and running for her to use.

Go ahead and get the 1681 you won't regret it.
