Hi guys....Acer Aspire 5102wlmi here.
I've had the free "Vista express upgrade" DVD's sitting around forever.
Finally decided I'd try them just for the heck of it. (What can I say, I was bored I guess)![]()
Everything went surprisingly well, except that the web cam ("OrbiCam") program was missing. (Well, and the usual list of older programs I had that were not compatible with Vista, of course).
Funny thing is, the camera showed as working properly in device manager under Imaging Devices, but the desktop icon (and the Camera utility itself for that matter), were nowhere to be found.
I couldn't even seem to find the .exe for it in the program folders (maybe I was just looking for the wrong program name, in the wrong place).
If I could have, I thought maybe I could send a shortcut to the desktop again.
In addition, I'm totally new to Vista, and navigating around what looked like unfamiliar territory was a little strange, to say the least.
Is this a known problem with the Vista Upgrade?
And if so, is there a fix? (I tried downloading the latest driver, but still couldn't find any icon or any way to access the camera itself).
Thank God for Acronis True Image!
I finally ended up successfully restoring a complete image of my XP installation, and everything familiar was back to the way it was in a mere 15 minutes or so.
But who knows, I may want to try this again sometime...but not if I can't get the Camera working.
Is there anyone here who did the Vista "express upgrade" (way back when), who ran into this problem?
And if so, did you end up finding a fix?
Thanks.
OrbiCam missing after Vista Express Upgrade?
