Ok, i bet nobody has had this problem yet. I've just installed a WinXP Pro "unattended" cd. its one of those where the person takes a normal WinXP Pro cd and slipstreams various programs (ie. office, firefox, or whatever they want). basically, it will install a bunch of additional programs and you will never need to type in any serial number, give it any configuration settings, all automatic.

it worked AWESOME, until i tried to use the webcam. system crash with the blue screen and the memory dump. its saying lv321av.sys is causing the problem. don't think i can fix it, since i have the driver from the acer website..might need to go back to the system restore disks and upgrade. or i'll need to dig up my old xp pro (SP1) to try it. altho, SP1 will not let the webcam work at high speed!!...i will need to find the files for SP2 somewhere. :(

apparently the webcam is made from Logitech as it shows in the driver settings in the device settings..i downloaded a random webcam driver from logitech which was also able to get the camera to work, but still, it got the same blue screen.

    any other drivers out there?

I don't suggest to make a fresh xp reinstallation from an oem cd because of not available ms patches like:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896256/

that are already included into acer pre-installation.

Clean the provided preinstallation is a better way in my opinion, remove all bugged acer utilities, epower management included, set your ati powerplay preferences, disable unused devices in device manager and remove asiatic chars support from control panel international options and language, language, remove two check boxes.
Further more you can disable all not needed programs from autorun like ati taskbar icon, all logitech camera things, all realtek related programs etc...
