I've just got an Aspire 5101 and when i try to connect the orbicam it comes up with the message that windows has detected a problem and has closed the programme. I'm running Vista premium and I'm wondering if its something to do with the OS as when the computer is left running and the Acer screen saver comes on, the camera image it shows is of me! I've uninstalled the Acer empowering stuff as it seemed to be stoping lots of things from opening up or working. Any ideas would be helpful.

Hey man I've got the exact same problem on mine, I run an aspire 5100 with vista premium 64. Same thing exactly, everything installs properly and it says the device is working properly, however when I go to run the orbicam application it goes and tells me that it has to be closed. I haven't the slightest idea, please help, it's my only way to communicate while I'm at work with my family at home!

I have a post going called Travelmate 8200 <-- Who has orbicam problems...I'm trying to consolidate the threads on orbicam problems in there. At first I thought that the Orbicam problems were limited to the TM8200 series but it seems to me the problem is a little more widespread. I used to have this problem, (when my webcam was working in the past), and all I had to do was close and reopen the orbicam application a couple times and then it would work...I'm really beginning to wonder whether the latest BIOS I have messed up the webcam. I'm going to try flashing to an earlier version to check.

Wow! I have the Aspire 5100 (I've had it for a month) and have the exact same problem! Then when I went to "change" it, it uninstalled it, now what do I do?

Lynna, you could try doing a system restore and see if that works,
on the Acer web site there are drivers for the orbicam so I'm going to see if there is one for this model.

I'm also getting problems too with the ATI card which keeps saying its not working and has to close.
(there are different drivers for this too on the Acer site)

Sounds like a problem with the 64 bit driver because it works fine on my 9810 with 32 bit Vista Ultimate. Are any of you using the 32 Bit version of Vista I know Raz said he's using the 64 bit Vista. They are having more problems with 64 bit drivers with Vista then the 32 Bit version.

I'm definitely running 32 bit or so it says on my computer.
it's bugging me when it won't work, its not that I want to use it for any reason, I just want it to work...

I am getting a problem with my orbicam and i am running xp. I keep seeing that the camera is unplugged or another application is using the webcam. I did a reinstall....same thing. I even considering to open the chassis to see if there's a wire loose or something...but i wanted to see if there are any other forms of approach first.

I think I found a fix -- this is from Acer Tech support - make sure you take all pictures out of the PICTURES folder on your computer (I moved mine to desktop)...Vista - click on window in lower/left corner -- click on PICTURES - and if anything is in there, move it. SAMPLE pictures can stay according to Acer - hope this helps

I just fixed mine this morning. UpNorth's solution will work, but Acer has a fix up on their website as well which fixes this problem via software upgrade. Go to:

    http://www.acerpanam.com/flex/acerdrivers/bin/drivers.html?CFID=1738812&CFTOKEN=85148936

And pick your model. Under the other Orbicam drivers and applications, you will find: Acer OrbiCam v1.0.0.19. Download it and install. Works perfectly for mine, which was the Bison version.

    Good luck!

UPNORTH is right, when i was cleaning my computer last night i took all the photos from every folder i could find and put it in to default PICTURES folder on my acer, (thats where your orbicam pics get saved if u take them) so anyways when i was done putting all the folders of my gathered pics in to PICTURES folder i tried to open orbicam and it said there is a problem (orbicam wont even start it has the fix problem logo that windows never finds a solution for im sure u know what i mean) (yes i also have aspire 5100 and vista premium) ok ok enough rambling and end of story is if u put folders (im not sure but maybe also random pictures) in to your default windows PICTURES folder, your orbicam wont start, so remove the photos that you placed in your PICTURES folder or remove tham completely to see if that works too, simple as that, better solutions? probably, but i dont really care, i just found out how to fix the problem the easyest way possible so my cam works, hope this made sense, and helps, cuz thats the only reason i signed up on here lol, i hate not finding solutions to problems like this, have a great life people, seek peace within you , life will be precious :)

Mine had the same problem. Also went to 'change' and found it uninstalled. Reinstalled it using the Orbicam Bison driver download on Acer Support page. Now the camera is either off or on. There are no controls, I cannot change any settings, cannot make video, can only take still shots. The Logitech driver had a nice control panel but did not bring the camera to life. Any ideas?
