    hey all,

I'm hoping someone can help with a nasty problem I've encountered.

I purchased my Acer Aspire 5672 with X1400 around a month ago. It has been working prety much fine until this evening. I go to start the machine and I get what I can only assume are motherboard POST error beeps of the pattern beeeeeeeep beep beep...... beep beep. The screen stays completely blank, the machine refuses to start.

I have checked the RAM is inserted correctly and hasn't come loose. It is fine. Does anyone have a service manual for the 5672 that may know what the beeps are saying? I'm guessing the motherboard is dead in the worst case which is nasty as I just found out I had to register to receive the years warranty on the machine within 1 month of purchase, which I'm not sure if the 30 days has passed already or not... fingers crossed but I am not hopeful and I'd really hate to have paid for a duff machine :(.

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Steve

Well I've been looking around and foundout the 5672 uses Pheonix Bios. I looked up the error code which I presume from how I heard it is 1-2-2.

"Bad motherboard" is the error. On the plus side I found out that the registering of warranties only applies to extended warranties, so hopefully they will repair/replace it. Oh well, I did have an issue with the charger only being picked up if it was twisted a certain way, so I'll get them to fix that too.

Would anyone know if I can specifically request a replacement or would I have to make do with a repair if it is offered because I'm beginning to think I would prefer a whole replacement to avoid future trouble rather than a possible botched repair that holds together for a short while and ends up with the same problem!

Also, I doubt I'd need to, but am I able to request a refund if I start getting messed around in any way?

I know you guys aren't lawyers but if anyone has any experience with matters like these I'd aprpeciate any advice!

    Cheers,

    Steve
