In hopes of saving myself $, is it a good idea to get a T9300 and overclock it to 2.6 GHz-2.8 GHz? The only difference (according to Intel's sheets) is the clock speed between T9300 and T9500. Thanks!
I plan to buy a T9500/T9300 and put it in my Acer Aspire 6920G. Hopefully T9300 and OC.

Nope you can't overclock any CPU in the 6920....

Now,please tell me the reason for oc'ing. If you are looking for better gaming performance then oc your gpu and not cpu because gpu is generally the bottleneck in games. Imho oc'ing cpu would be pointless.

what r u mainly using ur pc for?

Gaming is in the beginning of ur list. Then my suggestion would be to OC ur 9500 M GS if you are really interested in OC'ing.

I seriously doubt you would even notice a difference between the two.
That might make a good psych study: Re-label the procs and watch the folks with weaker machines brag to the ones with the faster ones. -
Media can be cpu intensive (given the fact it's a broad term) and games have a tendency of using CPU's in a heavy capacity as well (most rely on gpu's yes, but having a fast cpu is also good).
I personally don't see the way of doing it.
Acer has a tendency of locking their bios to prevent overclocking (idiots apparently want to impose their restrictions on us).
Unless someone has another idea, you are stuck with conventional replacement of the old cpu with a new/faster one.
Also keep in mind that the speed difference between those two cpu's is not that large.
Gains would be small even in encoding programs and other applications such as 3dsMax (games included) that are cpu intensive.
If you really want to upgrade, my suggestion is to do it with a cpu that has a much larger speed difference (say, over 500 Mhz ... in the 800 or 1GhZ range) or with a quad core cpu (if your chipset can support it when the prices drop).
Also note that there is a possibility how faster cpu's need better/adequate cooling in order to keep the temperatures manageable.
If you want to gain more in games, then overclocking the gpu (as others have stated) would be better.
But keep in mind that 9500m GS is a simple renaming of a 8600m GT.
And the 8xxx series had a serious issue with overheating and dropping dead prematurely as it is.
Overclock T9300 to T9500
