Im looking to overclock my T8300 in my 6920G from 2.4ghz to 2.6ghz.

Im new to overclocking and if anyone has done it to a 6920 please could you give me a step by step on how to do it! Ive heard on many sites it cannot be done due to the BIOS.

Ive read up as much as I can but still not confident in what I need to do, the correct parameters Etc and doing it right first time.

Im running the HD3650 also and considering upgrading to the 4650 mobile before I do so is there a way of overclocking this also? I wanna stay within the safe limits though! Your views are welcome Thanks :D

I don't believe anyone has been able to overclock their 6920G. GPUs are easily overclockable, though you might want to check out the Acer subforum to see if you can upgrade to a HD 4650 (and if it's worth it).

If your bios allows you to disable speed step you may be able to use throttle stop to pick up 200MHZ in Dual IDA mode.

Im seriously considering buying the HD 4650 has anyone been able to upgrade the 6920 with this graphics card? I hear a lot of people saying it cannot be done! Is this just because they dont know how to fit it or can the laptop not actually handle it?

As I said, check out the Acer subforum. Several users have tried different MXM upgrades and will be able to better guide you as to which work and which do not work.

To clarify, I said the Acer subforum here. Sorry if I sounded harsh. Hope the links can help, if not, use the search function narrowed to the Acer subforum.

Hey Dallers, you should definitely swing by the Acer subforum more often! I've asked a mod to shuffle this topic over there.
The Radeon HD 4650 is indeed hard to come by, but I've heard from the owner of MXM-Upgrade.com (he posts here as Ice-Tea) that they'll be getting Radeon HD 4670 MXM-II cards in soon. Still DDR2, but the extra clock speeds certainly won't hurt.

Hi tehsuigi, Im a little rusty on the whole GPU side of things would the HD 4670 work ok in the 6920G? I didnt realise its a MXM-II card so i guess it would!

Ill get to work trying to find one cheap!

    It should...in theory.
The trouble with MXM upgrades is that since the manufacturer doesn't support them, there's no cut-and-dry list for what works and what doesn't.
The only way to know if the GPU is compatible is if someone else has tried it or if a different configuration of your notebook was sold with it. That's how we clued in the Radeon HD 4650 worked on the 6930G, and from there it was a simple test to see if it did OK on the 5920G and 6920G.

Im just a bit worried about the coming months I can scrape through with the HD3650 and it definetely helps having this new CPU to run it on but I need the extra memory especially when games like Dragon Age 2 and Diablo 3 start coming! I saw the post re the HD4650 working in a 6920G and doing really well so if i can would like to try and pick one of these up on the cheap. Do you know of anywhere else that sells them apart from manufacturer?

Also could you advise me on which card I need I believe I can only run the DDR2 card MXM-II with 512mb? Or Can I run the DDR3 with 1gb?

Realisticly im looking around £150 to get it fitted and working which is although a lot I dont know if i can justify that at the moment. On the other hand I want to keep this laptop as long as possible.

Would you recommend moving from the HD3650 to the HD4670 at the price quoted?

Also is the MXM II card 1gb? or only 512mb?

Dallers, the main Radeon HD 4650 MXM-II card floating around comes with 1GB of DDR2 memory. Haven't seen an MXM-II card of the HD 4650 with GDDR3/DDR3 yet.
Remember though, more video memory is less preferable than faster video memory. Give me 256MB of GDDR3 over 1GB of DDR2 any day of the week.
