Hi
My acer 8930G has a quad core q9000 at 2ghz 6mb cashe and 1066fsb, the graphics is 9600GT with 1gb ddr3 ram.
How do I go about overclocking and what are the safe limits for this model?
Oh and I just installed windows 7 ultimate and my windows performance went down from 6.9 (vista) to 2.4!!!

Vista and 7 have different scales to calculate the score, not that it's very good in general though. I don't think you can OC the CPU but GPU is fairly easy. There are no hard set safe limits for OCing, every GPU will be different due to minor variations (errors) in the transistors. Just read a guide and start slowly. Good OCing takes a lot of time and patience.

It's impossible to get a 6.9 in Vista - 5.9 is the maximum.
I hate to be a snit, but did you install the latest drivers from Nvidia.com? -
I think the score dropped is due to "you haven't fully install all the important or vital drivers and software" to your AS 8930G.
Get the latest driver from Nvidia(186.81). It sucks for me. I am not sure about you.
Overclock can be done easily by using Nvidia System Tools(nTune). You can download this software from Nvidia website and it is an official OC tool from Nvidia.
I would suggest you to OC about 10-30%. Keep an eye on the GPU temperature. About the Memory Clock, do not OC too much(easily burn). Core Clock and Shader Clock can be OC a lot. -
Sorry typo, was 5.9 in vista.
Some items are 7.0 in windows 7 though. Its the memory and processor that is lowering the score! Graphics is 6.9. -
procesor 2.7
memory 2.7
graphics 6.9
gaming graphics 6.2
primary hard disk 7.0
Something is going on with hdd and memory.
When I installed windows 7 last week I had a score of 6.9 or 7, a lot higher than this anyway! -
this is weird. Just scanned it again and get:
6.9
6.9
4.8
6.2
5.9
So 4.8 score and this time graphics aero letting it down! I have the latest drivers for all the hardware on the system. Not sure why hard disk has gone down from 7.0 to 5.9 now too. -
It's known here on NBR that the Windows Experience Index is a terrible benchmark of performance at best, and an absolute waste of time at worst.
If you're really concerned about your system's performance, download and run PCMark05. -

Im not that bothered about it really, i just got worried when i saw the 2.4 score!
I think it will also go higher once better drivers and more support is available for windows 7. It is probably why that it gets a higher score on vista than windows 7.
I hardly play games, probably sims 3 or football manager, thats about it really. Mainly use my laptop for web designing, managing my forums, video and photo editing.
I think I just want to get the best out of it really. I did have one of the lower spec models of the 8930g but have one of the mid to high models now and can see the difference in performance especially with video editing.
