Hello there forum folks!
I own a Acer Aspire 6920g Laptop, I recently unscrewed and removed the backing to unclog the Heatsink and Air-Intake of dust. Now, don't ask me why, but having done so I dislodged the Thermic Paste spread on top of the CPU, basically spreading it too thin on the metal plate leading to the HS.
Now, I'd like to know if I need any specific type of Thermic Paste I need to get in order to replace what I've lost?
Regards
Renz
P.S.
Would this be ideal?

Get one of the three (one on bottom is best):
1. Arctic Silver 5 (AS5)
2. MX-2
3. Innovative Cooling thermal compound. (IC7 or IC24)
Don't forget to clean heatsink and CPU/GPU with alcohol (can get rubbing alcohol in the drug store) to remove the old paste. You can find MANY application videos on youtube for either of those. If you want an easy application, just get MX-2.
Cheers! -
MX-2 or AS5 is best. small rice size amount, dont spread it manually. Let the heatsink pressure spread it.

I have been building PCs for 2 decades and after trying different compounds, white or grey, thick or thin, cheap or expensive, they are basically the same. Just get whatever the cheapest. Clean the CPU and heatsink with alcohol, then a drop right in the center of the CPU then sit the heatsink on it and let the compound spread itself, done.

You just need a thermal paste. Use what you can get.
If you can get IC7/24, great! But those are expensive. MX-2 is not as good, but good enough. AS5 might be a little troublesome, since it is conductive. You should stick with MX-2, especially since MX-2 seems to work better. You can also try MX-3/4, or Shin Etsu X23.
BUT, the most important factor in the performance of the paste will be how well you apply it. -
Okidokie thanks for the advice guys!
I've only got one problem left; I need to clean off the stuff left behind. I take it on both the metal plate AND the CPU?
What type of alcohol do I need to use and how do I go about removing the metal plate itself? It's connected directly to the HS behind the fan (which I can remove). -
Most people would recommend isopropyl alcohol at 90+%, but really, any kind of alcohol is fine. I used ethanol, and works great.

And any advice for removing the metal plate the Heatsink is attached to?
