I just recently upgraded my old 60GB hitachi travelstar hard drive to a seagate 120GB one and noticed how hot the laptop is afterwards. Is it because I screwed up something? It's like scalding hot on the hard drive bay. the drives are slightly different in RPM, (the old one is 4200 and the new one is 5400, but I don't think that is the problem for the enormous amount of heat is it?). Is there anyway to remedy this problem? Is this even safe to have this computer running with the hard drive so hot? Please help! I don't want to burn this computer out...thanks!

I doubt you have done anything wrong. AFAIK, the faster the drive RPM the hotter they tend to run. My Seagate 120GB 5400RPM routinely hits 55 degrees celcius plus on hot days here.

no, i seriously don think u have done sumit wrong. like teejay 44 said, the new hard disk runs faster, so it will heat up alot. to be honest. a hot laptop rely isnt much to wory about. laptops always run hotter than desktop pcs. nothing to worry about
