I've been asked to upgrade an AMD based HP laptop with as much fast RAM as possible and so for 24hrs I've got 2x2Gb OCZ low latency CL5 PC2 6400 memory modules to play with.
I couldn't resist the temptation to try them in the 5135 which has been running happily for a while on its 3Gb of CL4 Kingston HyperX/T9300 combo.
The memory and chipset performed exactly as expected, with the OCZ memory downclocked to 667Mhz to suit the chipset. When running alongside the 1Gb Kingston chip all memory access was slowed down to the CL5 of the OCZ part. This reduced memory performance in the Vista experience test from 5.0 to 4.8.
Just one more thing you don't need to try guys!

Yes, the Kingston RAM is the bottleneck. If you've got some spare cash, you could get 2+1GB HyperX or OCZ, CL=4 PC2-5300 Memory. It will give ou a bit of an improvement. But the CPU's FSB will always be bottle-necking the RAM.

you just love sticking new parts in that machine... and i can respect that..
but the fact that you are still running VISTA.. tsk tsk,,, shame... shame!!!
just teasing ya,

you mean there's an alternative to Vista??
i'd be happy with XP but I need to learn about Vista so that I can handle the friends and family support calls!
One day it might even work properly
PS Has anyone fitted a hinged bottom flap to their laptop yet? lol -
the day VISTA works proplerly, MS will have the RELEASE CANDIDATE for windows version 8 shipping! (yeah i know ver 7 is the next release)
i have thought about making a plexiglass pannel so i don't have to disassemble to take PICs
BTW i just hit the BIG 2000 post mark!!!!!!! (go me!!!)
