I recently bought an Acer 5610z from a family member that didn't need it anymore and it didn't come with any documentation or software save for the Vista OEM DVD. I proceeded to immediately wipe the HD and make a new install with Vista on a 20 GB partition and my remaining space reserved for programs and the like.
About 2 days later I realized I was missing space on my HD and realized there was a hidden partition for recovery called PQSERVICE. This is my first notebook and I had no idea how hard it is to find drivers and was having a hard time finding all the drivers and programs I needed (even from the manufacturer most of the drivers/utilities are for win XP).
I didn't make the recovery DVD's so I thought it might be possible to find the utilities or drivers on the hidden partition. I've unhidden it but I'm at a loss as to where to find them or if any drivers or utilities are even on it.
At this point do I even need the partition or can I delete it? I'd love to find someone with a copy of the DVD's at factory default settings but...
    Any insight would be appreciated.

Welcome to NBR Acer, Transcendtient! (nice name, btw)
That PQSERVICE contains your recovery information - a recovery console, plus a full factory backup image of your hard drive as it was shipped from Acer.
If you want your recovery DVDs, download the Acer Empowering Framework software, then Acer eRecovery. eRecovery will allow you to burn a bootable recovery DVD.
Problem is, if the laptop originally came with XP, then that's what the recovery DVD will have.
If that's the case, feel free to delete the partition once you made your disc.

And as for utilities and drivers, XP or Vista, whatever your model, the Acer Euro FTP ALWAYS delivers.

Okay I've gone to the ftp site and there is a listing for the empowering framework, but no erecovery widget download.
Any ideas as to where I can get the widget? I've done a google search and nothing...
Also a side note, I have the 5610z model not the 5610. May not be a big deal. The empowering framework works fine, but I'm beginning to feel like I got the red headed stepchild model.

I've been there too and most of the widgets are for xp and I don't see the erecovery widget either. My box shipped with the anytime upgrade cd and vista installed says my brother, so I don't know why they wouldn't have the applications available for vista on any of their sites for my model #.
I'm sure its cross model compatible, but I don't know for sure.
I'm happily awaiting a response as these widgets actually seem to be useful as opposed to the packaged bloatware I'm used to with oem software.

Heres the webpage whose procedure I used to unhide the partition. I followed the procedure to rehide the partition and rebooted.
    http://www.notebookforums.com/thread217870.html
I'm getting this message when I try to install the widget you hosted for me.
eRecovery can not be installed - 1.bootable file
I'll try to find some answers in the meantime but I'm thinking they didn't make the widget available for a reason...

    True.
Of course, as long as you have the Vista installation disc, and a way to get all the necessary drivers, you don't really need the Acer recovery disc - all it'll do is set it back to factory default, bloatware and all.
