    Paper weight laptop. Acer Aspire 7736z

    Working on a Psychology paper apparently proved too much for my poor laptop. It blinked a white screen a couple times, so I naturally thought that I had a virus. I ran Malwarebytes and it found a few suspicious files, but nothing big, so I quarantined and deleted them. Then I restarted my computer, but it stuck me in a white screen again. Turning my laptop off, I once more gave an attempt to restart it, only for it to not turn on at all. No fan, no charging light, no sound, nothing. I have taken the battery out and replaced it as I have been advised elsewhere, used only the charger cord, used only the battery, and I am at wit's end.

    Does anyone have any helpful hints for me? I would be forever grateful.

    To fully reset remove the battery and all power and then hold the power button for 20 seconds or so... refit battery and adapter and try again.

    I don't think that is the problem though.

    Also, when you boot up can you access the BIOS screen by pressing the F2 key immediately after pressin power on button ? Don't alter anything, just see if the screen with text appears.

    Next to worst case is trying a recovery from the hidden partition or your recovery discs (you did make them didn't you :)),

    Worst case is a hardware failure... graphics chip ? maybe.

    If I could get it to the Bios, I could fix it, but it won't even turn on. I checked the battery and cord, but both of them are fine. When I go to turn it on, it acts like it doesn't have any power at all. Motherboard /looks/ fine, but I don't have the tools to test it on hand.

    The white screen of death on acer laptops is usually the cable from the motherboard to the inverter or screen if you push down on the white connector (about 1cm long) it should come back then either wedge a piece of card to hold it in place (not recomended ) or replace the cable usually about 10 to 15 pounds ebay. the switch on problem sees to be common to the aspire 7736z motherboard and appears to be due to an onboard relay not latching It is suggested that it is possible to replace this part but i would sugest this is not a job for the fant haerted as small cmponents and soldering irons are not a good mix
