I have a Aspire 1681.
There is a C: and a D:
The D: drive (ACERDATA) had nothing, so I decided to use partition magic to make one big C:
I opened partition magic to try and delete D:, and found a hidden FAT partition called PQSERVICE, which had an allocated 3Gigs...
Can I remove this, or do I need it?

This is probably the recovery parition. If Windows ever becomes corrupted you can use it to fix. Whether you need that is up to you. I personally removed the one on my T41. When I got it I did a fresh install and made a backup of the drive onto a DVD+RW.
I know things, things that could get me killed
Thinkpad T41:
* 1.6Ghz Pentium M * 768Mb Memory * 40Gb Hitachi 7200RPM * Panasonic UJ-845-B DVD+RW * -
So it's just a recovery disc?
My 1681 came with recovery discs, why would there be one on the computer itself?

The recovery partion is know as D2D partion... its very useful .i.e you can recover on the move and dont have to load cd one by one and its much faster than cd..
Btw: once the recovery partion is gone its gone for ever . So i suggest u take full ghost image of your entire disk.... using some network boot floppy like barts
Partitions (?)
