I just got an Acer 5610-4648 Laptop from Bestbuy, and so far it seems to be working great...except for one little problem. My C: drive says that It has 40GB free (out of 70GB). When It only has 16GB of material on it (went into the drive, hit ctrl+a, then properties). This leaves 14GB unaccounted for, I have tried every option in disk cleanup, and have defraged, and checked the volume for errors, yet the phantom space is still taken up. I would attribute this missing space to something such as windows installation or something, but I assume all of those files are included in the 16GB, when I selected everything inside the drive. So far I have installed: Adobe PS CS2, Guild wars, firefox, itunes, Microsoft Office Pro XP, and some drives and controls for our network printer (Brother MFC-???) But I have since uninstalled the drivers. Everything seemed to be fine and the drive had about 56GB free, up until yesterday, when I installed both office and the Drivers. Once I noticed the problem I immediately deleted the Printer stuff, as I had to download it online (for Vista) and it seemed kinda wierd anyway. So I don't know what is causing this problem, but If anyone could be of any help I would really appreciate it.

Edit: almost immediately after posting this, I went on my laptop again (I'm at a desktop) and the harddrive said that I now have 48GB free, which while better still leaves 6GB unaccounted for. Maybe it is just fluctuating in it's space reading? Or is this normal with laptop drives?

Do you have Vista, because it could be the Recovery Partition that is taking up your space.

Um, I am not sure, but I am very sure that is what it is, it sounds about right size wise. I dont have my laptop yet (soon I hope) so I dont know how to access it but I know someone else will know.
