I currently own a Acer TimelineX 3830TG with a i5-2410m and I was wondering if it's possible to physically replace that CPU with a i7-2630qm if I buy the processor on its own.

    Any answers are appreciated!

This was discussed quite a bit with the last generation CPUs. We concluded that it was possible but there might be issues with the heat sinks and such. The socket should work for both but the heat issues would be even more of a problem in the current generation Timelines due to the crappy cooling.

If the TDP value is not higher than that of the old CPU, then there should be no problem.

It is higher in this case- goes up from 35W to 45W- not advisable on a notebook that already has cooling problems.

Ahh thanks for the replies? Is it worth dishing out around 300 dollars (I think) for an i7 2630qm?
