Hi, I recently installed a new hard drive in my acer aspire 5332 and then installed genuine windows 7.

Now i have no sound whatsoever! ive done the obvious checks like make sure the speakers are turned up and system volume, looked in device manager and it said everything was working, updated the drivers in device manager etc but nothing is working :(

I recently tried to use my webcam on yahoo messenger and a pop up appeared and said i didnt have a sound card installed?? Can somebody plz help me? I've no idea what to do anymore! :(

OK, here is a link to the Realtek website, download and install the drivers for windows 7, these are the most up to date drivers.

    Realtek

Also, in control panel, sound, has anything been disabled there, what is showing?

Realtek sound is in 2 parts. Realtek only supply the bit that attaches to the speakers, sockets etc. This has to talk to the Mainboard chipset drivers that feed the sound to it.

You need to visit the Acer support site, select your machine and download and install the chipset drivers and the Realtek drivers for whichever OS you have installed from there.

It ought to work. Note the scroll bar on the support sites to see more drivers.

So, when you go into Control Panel>Sound it looks something like this (not exactly, but something is showing there)?

Give this a try, not sure if it will help:

Tips for fixing common sound problems

Click the little box Microsoft Fix It, it will download a file, run it and see if detects any problems. It's from Microsoft so will be fine to run.

type services in the start search box, open, check to make sure the Windows Audio service is started and is set to automatic.

Also, what happens when you plug headphones into the machine, do they work?

In the playback tab, if you highlight the speakers area, then click Properties, then on the new set of tabs, select Levels, are all the faders faded up fully to the right? Only Microphone should have the little red Mute marker in the speaker icon/button.

all looks fine to me! a friend of mine (who knows a little bit more about computers than me!) said he thought it was a driver problem too. only ive tried hundreds of drivers that i think it could be and it still doesnt work..

I'll find my headphones now and see if they work...
