On my Acer 5670 I used msconfig/genreal and disabled "Load system services" and "Load startup items." After restarting the computer, it appears to load windows properly, but freezes on the log in screen after I type in the password and I have to hold the power button until it turns off. The "Guest" account does the same thing, too. I seem to remember disabling these two options before with no problems so I have no idea what is going on. I really, really need everyone's help on this one. Thank you all in advance.

    Try booting into safe mode.

Sorry for my ignorance, but how do I do that? In the bios? Because I can't get to the main desktop or anything else. Thanks.

When the Windows XP screen is comes on, it should say somewhere press F8 for boot options. One if which will be safe mode. Before you do that try "Last Known Good Configuration" which is on the same screen. It is a profile of the last time you logged on which should include whatever you turn off before. Good Luck.

Awsome, it worked! Thank you so much! I had several essays and such on the hard drive (I'm a student) and I thought I would have to retype them all or take a 0. I will certainly be giving you a rep point (when I figure it out). The f8 option is very valuable information and will hopefully help me out of a tight place if ever I find myself in one again. What other options are there from the startup screens? Thanks again!

I can't remenber them all, but safe mode is the other good one. It loads the minimum drivers for Windows to boot.
