Hi Friends
Im a complete greenhorn with computers so thinking I knew how to speed up my 3 yr old bought from new Acer Aspire 3682WXMI I started to delete bits and bobs that I thought I didnt need, so I deleted this and that and one thing that comes to mind was the Arcade suite which I assumed was arcade as in games etc and not thinking I would need it, this old hand deleted it and since then I havent been able to watch a DVD when I load the DVD it just clicks and whirs.
I have tried many many sites for help, and have download a driver from the Acer site VGA_Intel_7.14.10.1114_VistaX86 and during instal I get the message
File Copying was not successful set up will now exit
Please accept that I am putting my hands up to being a fool, so any constructive guidance would be a great help but basically I would like to watch DVDs on it, I can still burn files etc onto cd's/dvds etc but just cant watch films.
Many many thanks with this, and excuse me if I have left out crucial information or have posted this in wrong section.
Sean

Hello,i would use windows system restore feature and restore windows to a earlier date, like before you messed it up.Use windows search feature to find out how to restore your computer, just put in system restore and hit search it will point you in right direction.

You need a codec for MPEG-2. Try K-Lite Codec Pack- it includes at least one.
-
Thanks Im in the process of downloading that codec from K-Lite thanks for the link I will give it a try and going to give the system restore a go also, thank you both for taking the time to reply

Downloaded the Codec thing from K-Lite was able to watch downloaded films on notebook and must say looks great but still doesnt pick up the actual dvd it justs clicks and when I check the drive via my computer its as if no DVD is not in it??
That will teach me to delete files haha but thanks anyways much appreciated. -
By deleting Acer Arcade, you've removed the components and codecs necessary to enable DVD playback in Windows XP and Windows Vista Business; neither of those operating systems have DVD playback built-in. Windows Vista Home Premium and almost all versions of Windows 7 do have it built-in, of course.
Try using Media Player Classic Homecinema: it should be able to play DVDs regardless of what OS you're using. -
Thanks TehSuigi I have just downloaded it and Im prompted afterwards I need to download DirextX runtime for (june 2010) which I did and still no joy. I will keep at it in case Ive done something wrong, would it be a problem that Im also using the Vista Basic?thanks again for all your help much appreciated

Maybe you should just attempt a System Restore, or even use your Acer recovery DVDs to reset the C: drive back to factory defaults.
Please help can no longer play DVD on aspire 3680
