    Hi,

I'm looking to buy a Aspire 4810 but I'm really confused about the processors.

1st question: i was going to buy it with a su9400, but I can't find benchmarks on the 9400 anywhere, I've heard on this forum that it is a u9400, which has a benchmark worse than the su4100 (962 to 986) but the su9400 is c2d and the su4100 is dual core, which is better??

    2nd question:
do I get it with the intel graphics (4500MHD) or the ATI Radeon 4330?? will the performance be increased or is the dedicated graphics the same as the intergrated?? (i've heard that the ati is a very low end graphics card)

3rd question: is there any other laptops i should consider?? i want long battery life and quite a good processor for under £500.

i'm going to be using the laptop for browsing, maybe light photoshop and dreamweaver work, not really gaming, maybe the old old one.

I would really appreciate any feedback, i want to buy tommorow.

    thanks

You may be better off putting Aspire 4810 review into google first and reading some user comments.

For processor and graphics comparisons look for benchmark results before counting cores etc.

Almost no Discrete graphics will be as underpowered as the 4500MHD, but the MHD IS carefully crafted to be just powerful enough to play HD video, hence the letters.
A discrete card like the 4330 is about 4x as powerful as the MHD but is still not going to let you play current games either (however infrequently :) , but might allow photoshop to be more usable and will probably use a bit more battery while it tries. If I worked in photoshop regularly I would look at a higher end Graphics card and laptop. Be aware laptops screens are hopeless for photo editing and colour matching anyway.

3rd question. Read reviews . . lots of reviews and try to see one in the flesh

Thanks, but that doesn't really Help. I've read lots and lots of reviews, benchmarks etc. I just want to know if the su4100 is better or worse than the su9400??

And whether the ati graphics is worth the extra 60 quid??

    Thanks

So . . Having read the benchmarks you know that the ATI graphics are 4x as powerful as the 4500MHD but will still not play any current games.

The two processors have no clear winner if you look at the benchmark pages I linked to.

I can't advise you on what to buy. Mentioning games and photo editing I wouldn't buy a 4810 but thats just my view

Sorry didn't mean to sound rude, thanks for your input. It's not going to be for games or PS, by games I mean peggle and plants vs zombies! Maybe sims 3 as I've heard I can play in low graphics!. By PS I mean editing a picture to make it transparent, dreamweaver maybe make a few static websites. My current laptop is an aspire 6920, now I want a laptop with good battery life, lightweight, screen size 13" - 14". Going back to the cpu's there's no clear winner?? What am I looking at? I looked at passmark and the su4100 seemed to come out on top.

If you visit the processor site I linked to, tick the box in both processors you mention plus (say) the core i3 350M then go back to the top and press the restrict button.
You now have the relatively recent i3 as a clue what 'good' looks like and the results of the two processors you mention. I would have put the 9400 ahead but I really doubt you would notice the difference between those two in daily use

Really? The numbers are all higher for the su4100? The su4100's newer than the su9400 as well, so I wouldn't feel the difference?

Some of the numbers are better if they are lower (e.g. they are a time to complete) . . thats why I tick a generally newer faster processor to keep me sane.

Tick the core i7 at the top as well as your two and have another look

Ah! I get it now, so the su9400 is marginally better! What's your advice, refurb with su9400, 320gb £389, or with su4100, 250gb new, £415??

Or know any 13" -14" with good proccessors under 500?? I can't find any!

i decided to go with the new 4810T, after having problems with PC world online's terrible service!

ebuyer had it for £415: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/172274, well worth it and probably will suit my needs, I guess the 6920 was overkill for what I do anyways!!

they also have the dedicated graphics one for £496 but I didnt think it was worth it.

i got it this morning, I can feel its a little bit slower than my 6920G but i'll get used to it.

I like the keyboard, the weight and the battery life!

the things that annoy me are the beeping when plugging/unplugging adaptor, when it comes out of hibernate the window sound is disorted, (this happened on my computer 10 years ago!) and it froze once, which my 6920G never has done in all the three years I had it!

    all in all, very pleased!
