I have exact same problem as was reported by another user in Nov 2007. I couldn't find the resolution in that thread. Following is my problem:
" I've owned an Aspire 3680 for a little over a year. No issues to speak of until last weekend, when I found that my 3680 that had been powered up and running fine, was powered off, no one had touched the machine. Assuming it went into hibernation or something I press the power button. Nothing. Press space bar, other keys, nothing happens. Pulled the AC adapter, checked to make sure the outlet was ok, everything seems fine. Battery charge light on the laptop is bright green, indicating it's charged. I pulled the battery out, reinserted, tried turning it on on battery power only, nothing. Pulled the battery out, kept it out, plugged the laptop into AC power, nothing.
Hard drive tests fine, I pulled it to test/read/backup.
One other oddity I've noticed, however it is not consistent, is that when I have the laptop unplugged from AC power, when I press the power button, occasionally the battery charge LED will flash a couple times orange. This flashing is not consistent when I press power in this situation however. Not sure if this is because the battery has depleted or what.
Anyone else out there have this problem? The way it's acting it seems to me there might be a problem with the battery, preventing powering up on battery power (which would be obvious), as well as preventing power up on AC power. Is that a "feature" of the 3680?
Any and all feedback is appreciated."
I copied the problem from the previous user but my problem is exact same.
Can anyone help me ? Should I junk this laptop (motherboard problem??)
Thanks

Take out the battery. Press and hold the power button for about a minute or two. Replace the battery and try and re-boot.

Do you see the HD light indicating the HD is spinning when you attempt to boot up? I had a similar problem with my daughter's toshiba, found dead, would not start up, but power & HD LEDs worked normally. After some searching, I found others with the same problem and a temp fix. It seems that if you remove and re-install the memory, the system will boot up normally. I've had to do this twice in the last three months, seems to work, just don't know why or how to find a more permanent solution.
Hope this helps.
