    Hi all,

Joined the forum after spending most of the afternoon reading it, trying to sort out the problems I'm having with the Acer Aspire 7720 I've got. Basically it has both the common boot-up freeze and crackly/distorted sound problems that appear to be common. I understand that the best, albeit riskiest, way to solve these is to flash the bios to a more recent version, which I am prepared to do.

However - the bios upgrades are not available from Acer's own support site, and I don't know where else I can find them, and I have tried.... Is there anyone who can help me locate them? The problems with this laptop are driving me spare, and I really can't afford another, or even another motherboard, just yet.

Are you sure they are not, because I can download them and find them as well. Try Acer Europe - Service & Support, Drivers & Utilities, Downloads, Notebook, Aspire 7720 and look at bios under the vista heading. Otherwise just make sure your laptop has the battery fully charged and plug the ac in just to make sure and flash away. You'll be fine unless your turn the laptop off and flashing is about 10 seconds so its easy and quick.

Yes, I'm sure I can't connect. I get the page and can select the BiOS download from the list but it always comes up with a 404 error. It does this when I try to retrieve the file from the external driver sites that link to it too.
