What do you think about Acer After sales Warranty and Support?

I have heard many people complain about Acer Warranty and Support and on the other hand I have heard many praise it for being really friendly. Also I have seen that this differs from region to region. Now i am going to buy an Acer Aspire in a couple of days and I am really curious to know what people have to say about their experienced with Acer After sales support and Warranty. So far Acer is the only major international brand I have seen which doesn't seem to offer full international warranty. Instead they offer a local warranty along with something called ITW (International Traveler's Warranty :( ) which only seems to be good for people on the move. Is this a better alternative to the International Warranties offered by other Major International Brands (like HP, Dell, etc.)?

P.S. I live in the Middle East Region (specifically United Arab Emirates) and it would be good if anyone can tell me how good or bad the Acer Support over here really is....

    Acer Canada:
-Warranty Service: Had issues determining symptoms, fixed issue eventually.
-Phone Tech Support: Helpful, but has long wait times.
-Email Tech Support: Absolutely useless. Didn't know what the Arcade Instant-On function was or that the Aspire 6920G had a "subwoofer," and had a bad habit of copying & pasting common responses that didn't answer my question.

The first problem was that my "subwoofer" wasn't working. It took them both them and us a while to realize that the 6920G's Tuba bass booster just improves low-middle-end sound, not act as a real subwoofer.
The second was that I wanted to get rid of Arcade Instant-On b/c it was wiping out Vista's system restore points whenever it booted. Email support was useless.

Acer Africa (South Africa) in particular is apparently excellent.

Very highly recommended by people here that have needed service support.

Thats why Acer sells so many lappies here. Me (so far) have not needed to test their ability as my lappie has given zero problems.

Still a pleasure to use after almost 2 years.

Can't speak for your region though. A product is only as good as it's service backup.

Is it possible to add a 'not needed it' option to the poll for people (like me) who have no problems with their machines? :)

that reinforces my belief that Acer build quality is quite good because there appear to be no hardware problems :D

never thought of that one. then again this poll is about ppls experience with the Acer support not without it... but feel free to post if u never needed it... that will also be good for potential buyers ;)

well i talked 2 the acer support yesterday... they were really helpful and quick...
unlike HPs support which kept redirecting me to different voice mail boxes....

I do not know how they act at products " on warranty ",
but i do know about " Out of warranty " .... they chase the hot cash , no matter what .

They give you false info as resolution , to force you getting in their tech centers.

I would prefer to was honest , and say that we do not offer email or phone support , to systems " Out of warranty " .

    Not correct statement .

In every brand , there are successful models , and bad designs .

For instance the old Travelmate 2414WLMi or Aspire 3610 , are great systems for non gamers .

I did my mind to get an ACER , because i can find parts for it worldwide and normally priced .

Toshiba from example, for one Tecra laptop they ask 400$ for their replacement DVD-RW drive .. and 200$ for battery .

Thats why I feel better to own an ACER than a Toshiba , even if i dislike the ACER support policy .

every laptop has flaws... my friends Dell latitude d500 just had a minor problem that his power port stopped working... so he took it to the repair center and they told him they would have to replace the whole motherboard for 120$... he didnt want to pay that much so he just went went to his dads friend who was an electrician... he fixed the port for 15$... does this mean dell is bad? i think not... but they certainly have some flaws

i'll preface my answer with the fact that i have worked as a PC tech for 20 yrs, and have not needed Acer for any issues with my PC... but my father has the same PC and had a HARD DRIVE go bad (probably due to user abuse).

acer sent out an advanced replacent (with CC hold of course), but i recieved the drive 2 days after calling and requesting the part. i was a bit disappointed that the replacement was a TOSHIBA HDD and not a HITACHI, but atleast they replaced the HDD promptly and with very few questions once they understood that i knew exactly what i was doing.

so my experience has been good... not the best but very good. YMMV

    Acer Indonesia:
-Warranty Service: Had issues determining symptoms, issue not fixed untill now (overheating things, and why my DVD-RW drive always broken many times).
-Phone Tech Support: Not Helpful, has long wait times, always ask me to go directly to acer service center
    -Email Tech Support: no email.
-The technician is sloppy : there was a case they forgot to put some screws back. the screws hidden in rubber in lcd, so my lcd feel creaky and i need to bring to acer again and it take a week.

    but there one good point.
they never refuse to replace any parts.

parts on my laptop that already replaced by acer :
    LCD - 3x
    DVDRW - 4x
    Batt - 1x
    HSF - 1x
    Keyboard - 1x

all for free but it take long time from 1 month to 3 month. and currently my laptop still on acer. the dvdrw broken again.

from 3x they replace my LCD, 2x because acer's fault. when they give the laptop to me the screen show random lines. they replace it but then the screen go blank if i close the lid halfway >_>

Our Acer Inspire expired after about ten months. It might be working but the display is completely black as if turned off. I have attached a desktop display and toggled the proper key, I think F5, to no avail. Meanwhile the Acer support is giving me stock answers that require that you see that Windows XP is working! Then they told me to download a new BIOS but their instructions for doing so are completely in error. I feel that they are somehow trying to avoid the warranty. What recourse do I have?
