Hello, I have myself one of those Acer Aspire 6920G (Gemstone Blue) - great laptop. But I'm wondering how upgradable this laptop is, and how far I can upgrade it? Not thinking of purchasing upgrades yet, but I tend to use some graphics intense stuff (some of which runs a little bit slow). So would it be able to handle and upgrade to higher range nVidia GeForceM cards - my current is the 9500M GS, but say if I wanted to install a 9800M. And likewise with the Intel Core Duo 2 processor - will I be able to upgrade that?
Cheers.

updating graphics cards is in most cases not possible. check out the gaming section, in teh stickies there is a thread about the possibility ( or im-possibility of upgrading graphics cards).
and btw, the 9800 might consume a little too much power.... so it will use a totally different mxm slot than your 9500m gs. it simply would not fit physically. -
But in this case, it is; seppuku's ( of all names, why something like that?) laptop has an MXM-II card and so the highest you can upgrade to is the 9650M GS. The 9800M is probably MXM-III or higher and wont even fit in your laptops gpu slot.

Cheers, that's most helpful.
As for the name, I don't know why, but it usually stems that kind of reaction. -
Do you not know what the term "seppuku" means?
-
hmm, well maybe he does, maybe he does not
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seppuku
Seppuku (切腹, Seppuku? "stomach-cutting") is a form of Japanese ritual suicide by disembowelment. Seppuku was originally reserved only for samurai. Part of the samurai honor code, seppuku has been used voluntarily by samurai to die with honor rather than fall into the hands of their enemies, as a form of capital punishment for samurai who have committed serious offenses, and for reasons that shamed them. Seppuku is performed by plunging a sword into the abdomen and moving the sword left to right in a slicing motion. The practice of committing seppuku at the death of one's master, known as oibara (追腹 or 追い腹, the kun'yomi or Japanese reading) or tsuifuku (追腹, the on'yomi or Chinese reading), follows a similar ritual. -
SSZero, the 9650M GS is an MXM-II card? I could've sworn it was MXM-III.
In any case, the Aspire 6935G and 5930G both will have 9600M GT cards in them, which should be MXM-II. -
Yea my mistake; it has a TDP of 29W which means it is MXM-III so then the OP's best bet will be the 9600M GT
-
It'll be mine too, once it gets released through OEM parts channels.
Either that, or I wait until the 200 series makes its way into MXM cards in 1-2 years. -
Yes I do.
Never saw anything wrong with it as a username, (originally chose it because I thought it was an interesting concept in Samurai culture...grim I know, but still interesting.
)
None-the-less, I've been asked to chance my name because of its meaning.
Ah, I see - it might be a worthy investment in the future (I'd have to check what the differences are, but I doubt they'll have a huge difference) and chances are there's better support for it - apparently my drivers aren't very good with games like Mass Effect simply because my the latest 9500M driver is behind the lastest nVidia drivers (computer says I have the latest, which is 167, the other cards seem to go to 169) - unless of course anybody knows of any working unofficial nVidia drivers that bring it to version 169 or equivalent (which is supposed to stop ME memory leaks) I know there are driver packages for nVidia cards, however I am told there isn't much laptop support with them (and haven't seen my card on any of the lists)
Cheers. -
167? The Acer Euro and US sites both have 174.51 (which is what I'm running) and the Euro site has 175.61.
d00d, upgrayd!!

Hmm...I've not found one yet, but I'll keep looking - I'll do a forceware specific search.
[edit]
Came straight up - though not on any official nVidia sites...as a download skeptic (don't want to accidentally install faulty drivers or download from a faulty site) will this link be safe? http://www.opendrivers.com/driver/247868/nvidia-geforce-9300m-geforce-9400m-geforce-9500m-forceware-driver-174.51-windows-vista-x32-free-download.html -
