Possible, but not plausible. The 6930G's cooling system may not be up to the task of handling 10 extra watts of heat dissipation introduced by the third and fourth cores. As well, your system may not have the necessary BIOS support.

If I were you, I'd look into getting a fast dual-core instead of a quad-core. It'll make single-threaded applications that much better. Try a T9600 or T9800 on for size!

X9100 - same problem as the quad-core, 10 more watts to dissipate.
P series - no problem here! Because these are medium-voltage CPUs, they'll run cooler and sip less battery power.

Nah, the X9100 will work fine in a 6930G. lucino's proven that somewhere in this sub-forum and if i remember correctly, it idled around 50C. If I could get my hands on a cheap quad core, I'd be willing to try the compatibility trial.

Echo, I just noticed your 6930G config. That is one sick machine. Going SSD when you get the money, I guess?

Been eying the 256GB Samsung for quite some time along with some PC2-6400 Samsung 8GB RAM packs. Now I'm just waiting on a really nice Bing cashback for eBay and maybe the second HDD bay stuff for the 6930G to get back in stock. :D :D :D

Triturbo has the best 5920G and I probably have the best 6930G don't I. :)

Probably. I do occasionally wish I had waited a few months before dropping the dollars on my machine - could've had a 6935G, ffs.

I just had an opportunity to try this with 6935G and Q9000. Unfortunatelly the bios doesn't recognize the processor and won't boot. (Tested with newest 1.13 bios version).

    So it's a no go - at least with 6935G :(

I have an 8930G with a T6400 in it currently, and also purchased a Q9000. I upgraded the BIOS to 1.13 in preparation, but mine also does not boot.

Anyone know what the difference is between the dual-core and quad-core supporting platforms? Did Acer actually go to a different BIOS or motherboard in order to use the Q9000? Some 8930G's came with that CPU.

    Thanks,
    Chris

Hi Chris, and welcome to the forums.
Taking a look at the parts list on AcerParts.com for the 8930G, the dual-core and quad-core models of the 8930G use different mainboards - MB.ASZ0B.001 for dual-core, MB.ASZ0B.004 for quad-core.
You've probably got the former part and thus can't use the Q9000.
Go sell it for a fast dual-core, something like a T9800 or T9900. Something to be said for a 3.06 GHz Core 2.
