Would this be possible or is there some kind of proprietary adaptor etc ?

Also, how much extra heat would a 7200 hd make ?!

    Has anyone done this ?

It’s possible- no adaptor as it's standard SATA 2.5” drive.
As for the heat- 7200rpm drives don’t get much hotter than 5400- no more than 3/4*C and from what I’ve seen 5400 drives in 5920G don’t get very hot either, even though the drive is near the GPU.

difference in RPMs usually don't make it generate much more heat, and definately not enough for you to notice.

Your notebook uses SATA so all you would have to do is just purchase a 2.5"7200RPM SATA hard drive of any capacity and it should just go into your laptop's hard drive bay.
