I am a Tech. and have an issue with an Acer Aspire 5315 where it will not switch on either with or without the battery with a working ac adaptor.

I have replaced the power Jack, the battery and the motherboard and after I replaced the motherboard it worked for a few days charged the battery and would work wit or without the battery then I was working on it without the ac adaptor plugged in and I got the message that the battery was low so I plugged in the adaptor and the battery led come on and started to go on and off intermittently so it was not charging. Also if I leave it without the battery in it for 3 or 4 weeks it starts to work again and after a few days reverts back to not working.

I cannot understand why this is happening particularly after changing the motherboard, has anyone got any suggestions?

Probably a faulty capacitor in the charger.

Can you tell me where on the motherboard are the capacitors and how to test them. I would really apreciate if you could help me as after spending money on new battery, power jack and motherboard I don't want to abandon it.

    Kind regards
