    Hello everyone,

What do you think about the new predator (to challenge the msi gt73vr or the alienware 17 r4):

    http://www.materiel.net/ordinateur-portable/acer-predator-gx-792-78vq-139091.html

Sorry the link is french but it should be pretty obvious to get the specs and so forth.

It seems they added a third fan unit under the touchpad for more cooling.

Any thoughts on how it could perform overclocked? Has anyone had the chance to test it and could share their thoughts?

I have never touched a predator so I have no clue about build quality, components in comparison to msi/alienware or asus...

    Cheers!

Build quality is very good. Above MSI but below Alienware. Speakers and screen are both exceptional. Keyboard is not great.

Quality control is lower, temps range from excellent to awful depending on the unit.

    Pretty impressive.
It's good to have another option, you can get really good deals for the gtx 1070 version for around $1500 .
Not to crazy about the red accents but at least it's not too distracting.
Any release date for the gtx 1080 model ?

    Here's the latest review: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Acer-Predator-17-X-7820HK-FHD-GTX-1080-Laptop-Review.207172.0.html

In comparison with msi gt73vr, the predator gx, is considerably cheaper, it offers about the same level of performance, the temperatures are acceptable (there's throttling in prime95+furmark stress tests but, that's an unlikely situation for normal high cpu+gpu intensity usage) and could probably be further improved with repasting.
The build quality seems above the gt73vr, keyboard is about on par with steelseries (with probably a slight edge for the msi's), the FHD screen has high luminanance, sRGB is enough for semi pro photo editing, contrast is good, black level is decent, overall a versatile screen.
The price/performance ratio is by far in predator' favor but, there are some subjective factors+ mux switch for msi, slightly better temperatures, better support and a higher active community that can help you to bring it to it's fullest potential, 120hz screen, the possibility of an unlocked bios... all of these compensate and bring a good value/price for the gt73vr.

this review gives more details especially about screen quality

    http://laptopmedia.com/review/acer-...eview-4k-gaming-on-a-laptop-finally-worth-it/

i'd say this machine is almost perfect universal computer especially in comparison with alienware r4. the only inconveniency i see right now is a memory upgrade. but even 32gb will be enough for the first step. looks like amazon have them in stock again with 4k display
