    Hey

I have an Acer Aspire 5610 and I need to prevent it from downclocking the cpu. Under load (fx Orthos stress test) the cpu runs at 1.76GHz but when idle it only runs 798MHz.

It needs to run at 1.76GHz at all times. How will I prevent this downclocking?

It runs Windows XP Pro sp2 which I have installed my self from a original (as in non recovery cd) XP CD and I have found all the drivers my self on acers website. I have non of the "Acer" utilities installed.

    Any suggestions are welcome :)

    Hey again

I have an update on the situation.

#1: I have cpu-z screenshots showing CPU info at both load and idle
    http://wuhtzu.dk/random/acer_aspire_5610_cpuz_load_and_idle.png

#2: I have installed all the Acer Empowering utilities (power manager, performance management ect.) and none of them holds any options / settings related to CPU speed...

#3: I have thoroughly checked the BIOS for settings related to something like a "Cool'n'Quite" feature but there is no such options.

    Wuhtzu :)

Hope this helps when i click on acer epower management i get the menu below which shows u can change the different CPU speeds.

Thanks Chucklz_smiley. I actually forgot I didn't bother to install the ePower Manager because it required .NET framwork 1.1 but I have it installed now and I see a similar option.

How ever CPU-Z will give me the same reading of 798MHz even when pluged in to AC and Maximum performance is choosen...

I have looked into RMClock and have a thread going there too just to see if I can get around it that way :)

I have same problem and changing the processor speed from epower management doesn't help?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

NHC works in the same relation on my 5672. Adjust it though NHC and it adjusts it though Epower management.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I used NHC to make it Max. Prformance but still I have 798MHz.

Why do you want to make it max ? Which CPU ?

I have Acer Aspire 5101AWLMi. I have 2GHz processor and it only runs at 798MHz. I need more power for audio processing.

    Download CPU-Z.
Then download Orthos....Run Small FFTs, and check in CPU-Z if the frequency goes upto 2GHz or not.

    Thanks Andy!

Running Orthos right now. I let you know how it goes.

You should see the multiplier jump upto the max giving a frequency of 2.0GHz.

    How long it should take?
Orthos still running. At the moment:
    Test 110, 1000 Lucas-Lehmer iterations of M106497 using 10K FFT length.

    Still no change in CPU-Z: 798MHz and Multiplier: x 4.0 ?

Ok, download RMClock, and with Orthos running in the background, upload a screenshot of the "CPU Info" Page in RMClock.

Is there any CPU option like Cool n Quiet, etc in the BIOS ??

Your CPU seems to be locked to 4x. Did you install the AMD drivers ?

Yes I have XP and Service Pack 2.
    I tried stressing again.

I'm planing to reinstall whole system again.
Do you think that might help?
    And any tips on that?

I am not sure. CnQ should be On by default. And for CnQ to function you need the AMD CPU drivers installed. You did all that and still nothing ?

    Ok, In RMClock
Don't bother about the red boxes, but in Max Performance, enable P-state transitions --> Then only check the highest index.

Then go into Profiles, and set Max Performance as the current profile on AC Power. (And keep the notebook plugged in)

    See if that helps.

    YES!!!

That helped. RMClock and CPU-Z etc. shows. 2GHz or 1995MHz. Windows XP My Computer -> properties shows still 797 MHz ?
Any way my computer is much faster now and sound processing works well.
    When I run RMClock I got 2GHz if I don't run it I still have 798MHz?

    So, Thank you so much!!!

You can try lowering the voltages for the highest multiplier there, which will help the CPU run cooler. As voltage decreases, (Less) Voltage*Current = Less Power. So, lower temps and better battery life.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=235824

You should try updating the BIOS as well. CnQ should function properly. I think a clean install might help.

Basically your CPU is somewhat loading at the lowest multiplier, whereas CnQ should increase the multiplier and frequency to max, when the cores are stressed. RMClock is locking the specific multiplier, so the processor frequency is locked at 2.0GHz, and will not lower to save battery life.

You can also set RMClock to startup alongwith windows, with the specific multiplier or P-state defined.

Just updated bios and did some lowering for voltages. Also changed for "Performance on demand".

Everything seems to work ok so far. =)

Next step will be clean install when I have more time.

    Thanks again!
