My 5920g start it wont even get to the postscreen happened right after the hdd got messed up.So i changed i figured that it was just the hdd that kept it from starting but nothing happened. So i asked and some told me it could be anything im really hopping its that its just the gcard since its the 8600m gt.One person told me to put a cd in the drive and if its spins it its probably the card and not the motherboard or cpu but idk.So best case if its the 8600m gt
could i upgrade it to the 9600m gt or the 9650m gt since they also are mxm2.
I think the bios support the 9600m gt but im not sure about the 9650m gt.
I really wana finish my fallout 3 game i was almost at the end.![]()
Thanks for your help.

PS. could i use hook it up to my old laptop and see wats wrong with it??? -
ok 50 views isnt there any techie ppl out there?
-
Sorry bro...It's not clear what you are talking about. Is it HDD or GPU?
-
its not the hdd i changed it.The laptop wont boot, it doesnt even get to the post screen it just hangs up.
-
-
yes the hdd is sitted correctly but still nothing
-
Maybe there is something wrong with your hdd connector? Is your original hdd really dead? Can you test it on another computer?
-
tested both of my hdds 1st dead 2nd new and working
im thinking maybe its something more like than just that
maybe motherboard/cpu/gpu really anything. -
Do you get any kind of flicker on the screen. I think it is the prosessor myself. There should not be anything wrong with the board if you did not play with it.
-
Nope no flicker on the screen.I power it on lights turn on it shows
hdd activity the hdd light stops blinkin after a minute, and thats it.Im hoppimg that its not the cpu or motherboard but w/e how can i find out? -
It might be that your screen died. That is no better than the cpu. I'm not sure how to check it thought. I don't know why no one has answered this question for you. There are usualy a few tech. around here that could answer your question. You would think though if anything was wrong with the video it would still boot normal. If no one reply's you may have to bring it in to someone to check it. Should not cost too much. Then just fix the problem yourself. Hope you get it going. I have had mine for a year now and hope for no problems. Good luck.

To test if your LCD's fault use an external monitor/TV. If you get a picture - the problem is your screen.
Is there heavy HDD activity even though your screen remain blank? If yes this mean your HDD is loading Windows so the CPU is fine and it's your GPU/LCD fault.. -
Maybe its ram ?
Too check it: take off your hdd, and leave 1 ram in your system, Turn on your system. If that doesn't work take off that ram inside your system, and switch for that other ram and turn on it again. -
ratchetnclank Notebook Deity
I think its the lcd screen.
Need to send it back to acer to fix. -
Its not the lcd since external monitors wont work. And wont help cuz its out of warranty. But seriously it was only a couple of weeks past the warranty and still nothing.Maybe the NV was faulty chip fried and took everything aound it?.Maybe idk.

My friend Acer locks up at the Acer screen press F2 for bios but does nothing. Is this what you are talking about?
I am thinking it's the motherboard. -
-
So is there anyway i can find wats wrong with it without taking it somewhere,
im not in the states now and the acer customer support isnt really helpful i mean why hire ppl who dont know anything about todays laptops. -
Have you tried testing the RAM, if you have 2 sticks, take one out and see if the machine works, if not, then try the one you have just taken out in the machine on it's own. Test the ram bays, see if any of them are defective.
-
i dont think its the ram ive tried them and ive tried the old ram cards and still nothing. How do i test the ram bays?
-
just by using one at a time.
-
I ve tried that still nothing
This is thread more about upgrading here if anyone knows:

I guess its video card. Try this:
1) Turn on your laptop and start hitting F2 key, after some time your system will enter BIOS (even if you don't see it). Then each time you hit F2 you'll a beep. -> yes -> i'd say your motherboard and processor are OK.
2) Remove video card and turn it on again. LCD backlight is working? -> Yes -> don't think its LCD, guess its OK.
3) Replace damaged video card.
You can try replacing your video with 9600m gt, but I'd check forums first.
I've replaced mine with ATI 3650 HD (my 8600m gt also died). You can get it from ebay (search "ati mxm" or "nvidia mxm"). -
btw how do i know if the lcd backlight is working?maybe its something simple but to make sure how would i know?
Yes have searched the forums alot but nobody seems to know i started a thread on cpu's and gpu's i can upgrade to,but it seems that ppl dont know.
I have already found alot of video cards and proccessors but i dont know if they work on my system.
Thanks again. -
Check and you'll know it. -
I had the exact same problem with my ex Aspire 7720G with 8400M GS. It was still under warranty so the problem was solved on their end.
The simptoms were the same as your´s.
It was the gpu, it had to be replaced and that was it.
Hope this helps m8. -
It turns out that its just the gpu
thanks everyone
EDIT:Luminati you have an acer 5920g?
was change the gpu fairly easy or did you find any trouble with bios and drivers?
Also does it run better than the 8600m gt ddr2 256mb(mine).
Do you think its gona run as good as the 9600m gt ddr3 1gb?
i dont know why its 1gig if it can only use 256mb but w/e.
Cuz i found a couple on ebay fairly cheap too. -
, but thats because I used thermopaste instead of thermal pads for chip and it overheated each time
. Right now I'm waiting for pads to be delivered.
Prob 5920g blackscreen
