Hi
I bought my lappy before 2 months. but eventually i found it gets reboot due to overheating...n it happens near about 5-6 hrs of working time, when i use it with enough power supply.![]()
one more problem with that is Battery started draining comparatively faster than it was initially...
I feel my money got wasted...i cant find any problem in any software....it happens generally when i play heavy games.
i wish i could have perchased other ones..may be Dell or Sony![]()
can anybody suggest me a solution?:confused2:![]()

Okay, let's start over. First, welcome to the forums.
Second, I'll try to help a step at a time. You say your laptop overheats often, 5-6 hours after use? Where do you put your laptop on when you use it? You have to give the laptop modest ventilation because even the most tame of laptop suffers in overheating if you happen to block the vents and intakes--most often the case if the notebook is resting in a cushion or a mattress or something. Also, if you have an AMD CPU, it's also known for higher temps than its Intel counterparts, so that's another thing.
Third, the battery. How much shorter than "initially" does the battery last? When did you measure the "initially", and how long does it last? In battery mode, and if you are in the High Performance power plan, your battery could drain a lot faster than if you are in Power Saver--in my machine it's about 30 minutes shorter.
Also, when it restarts, how do you know it's because it's overheating? Does it display a message or something?
Right now I'll suggest a few things to monitor your laptop temps. First, grab HWMonitor. It's an app that shows your CPU/GPU Temps, and we could find out how much it overheats, if at all. If it's not that much, you might have to just undervolt a few, but let's save that for later.
Next, for the battery, you might want to recalibrate the battery. Search the forums for "battery calibration guide" without the quotes. If that works, then good, if not, and if you really feel you could toss that battery out the window, don'tinstead contact Acer and try to get a replacement from them, which I believe they would do, especially if you could prove that the battery performs substantially less than how it should.
-
It's pretty obvious that playing heavy games would cause overheating without proper ventilation or even draining your battery. My battery says I had two hours one time when riding a bus but then I had that smart idea to play Crysis and the battery died within 30 minutes. Don't trust the battery time estimators, they usually aren't right.

Thanks for the reply & warm welcome.
First of all i use my laptop placed on table.is it ok for the ventillation pupose? or i should do something extra? pl. let me know. It shows no message when it reboots. can some one give me link for latest version of HWMoniter?
Regarding battery initially when it was charged 100% it took generally 6-7 hrs to come to 25%...now it takes nearlly 4hrs to come at 25%.
i hope i have explained my problem in better way...thanks -
HWmonitor can be found here.
-
i was thinking about buying this laptop...i think 4-5 hours of battery life is pretty good..
-
How many cells do you have in your battery? Or is that 5536G something like the new Timeline Series that endorses that ridiculous of a battery life?! Whoa.
Well, four hours ain't bad, you know. I could barely run my notebook for two hours on Power Saver plan, so I think that's alright enough.
For the table, yeah, that's great. Just remember not to put it over something that would trap/not let air into/out of the heatsinks. I had a friend who fried his motherboard after leaving his notebook beside him in bed overnight. He woke up with the smell of fried silicon and burnt bedsheets. -
My 5536 has a 6 cell battery and it gets about 2 hrs in battery saving mode while surfing the web. Same as the 5536G reviewed here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Acer-Aspire-5536G-Notebook.17192.0.html
My laptop gets to 97 degrees celcius after 15 minutes of intensive computing, then it throttles down to 550 mHz. I'm sending it back, but I don't have any high hopes of getting it back with the problem fixed. -
...oops! der's myside mistake.. i think i should have clearly mentioned that the max. 4hrs battery means when my lappy is almost idle under powersaver plan..... with heavy games it just reboots nearly within 1 hour.
regarding table, are there any stands are available for laptops to have good ventilatons?
Thanks Tehsuigi for the link....Thanks a lot for replies.
Hi Olloollo...when did u bought ur laptop? -
Heavy games aren't meant to go on batteries, you know. Either your card would throttle down or you'd barely last an hour playing.
Well any table would do, but if I were you I'd invest on laptop cooling pads. They're worth it. -
Mine is 2 weeks old. Installed latest bios yesterday (1.05). I have never seen the battery give close to or over 3 hrs, and I am using power saving mode and wifi is always on, screen brightness low.
-
damn i only get 2hrs if i am lucky on mine and thats at its full potential
-
Google AMD Turion Undervolting
-
how would you rate your 5536g?? can we have a 9 cell battery?
-
The app on this page is the only one I have found that work with the RM-series of Turion: http://aspiregemstone.blogspot.com/2009/06/k10stat-amd-griffin-processor.html
-
1) Use K10Stat to undervolt the CPU to 1.037V for 2.2Ghz Pstate0
2) Dismantle and use arctic silver 5 thermal paste on CPU,GPU,North Bridge
3) Cut alternate Air vent Grills out.
4) Cut out a rectangle of 50mm x 60mm directly below the fan on the case
5) Install a grill
You must do all of the following, doing few wont help. You might void warranty.
My Temp reached a peak of 84C after about 5 hours of IntelBurnTest and UT3Simultaneously on a background. The min temp is about 37C where the fan automatically switches off, this happens when idle in windows and with pstate2.
For more information and pictures and links please email me at [email protected] -
Very interesting and encouraging! I will email you for pictures, unless you can post/link them here? Is 84C the highest it gets now, but it got hotter before?
I decided to keep my system, but I have not done any physical mods yet. -
Yeah ill link em pics in a while... 84 C is with the lid closed and on a flat wooden surface with crazy load. Normally runs at about 71C while playing a game (UT3). around 40C at idle at 2.2Ghz Pstate0. -
I've been thinking about the cooling of the other parts, such as the GPU. Perhaps they will suffer after this mod, since the air now takes a different route. Have you stress tested the graphics any and checked for artifacts?
Yeah, pics would be great! I think I'll follow in your footsteps -
Doing this mod DOES void the warranty.
I don't think the GPU's cooling would suffer, since it shares the same thermal assembly as the CPU, which is connected to the fan. The only real problem with this mod is that the grills might eventually need cleaning, but other than that it could help. Just be careful cutting things. -
Yes, you are definately right about the warranty!
And also about the PCU-GPU cooler combo. Still, why didn't Acer make a hole there in the first place, as on many many other notebooks? Instead there are only two small air intakes (one under the RAM slots and one in the front). I'm thinking there are parts by those intakes that need cooling (the HD?). If you mess with the internal airflow, the CPU and GPU may get cooler while some other things get hotter.
I'm eagerly waiting for those pics -
hi
I bought my Acer 5536G 2 weeks ago, but I have many problems with it.
1- the screen is extremely blurry. I can not watch a movie with this laptop
2- VERY slow, it takes 40 second for a Microsoft word new file to open.
3- the fan makes a lot of sound
Could you please tell me if I should expect it to be like this or something is wrong with this laptop.
Thank you -
1. Mine is sharp at the screens native resolution (1366 x 768). As with all lcd-screens, If you use another resolution it will be blurry.
2. Sounds extremely long. I don't have Word, so I can't compare. It feels very snappy though.
3. Seems to be the case with all AMD-CPU-based laptops. Undervolting might help. -

My email is same as nickname at gmail.com

There are mechanically skilled tasks required before undertaking a vent mod. So please consult a good engineer or email me for step by step modding guide.
-
Acer forgot to make tiny holes beneath the fan, factory fitted uncut grill is clearly visible, a serious flaw. My mod allows excess cooling, probably hampering other parts mildly.
-
The tools I used,
1) Screwdriver philips and slotted
2) Vernier Scale, scale, paper and pencil
3) Cutting tool and file
4) Stainless steel plate , milling machine
5) Drill, custom screws
6) Paint and paintbrush -
YEAH BABY! That's what I'm talking about!
Looks very nice and very tempting! I'll be back. Good work! -
Hey, giri.placid!
Did you have to disassemble the lcd, keyboard, drives, speakers, motherboard etc and work your way from the top so to speak, in order to reach the bottom cover? That seems like a lot of complicated work.
Or will the bottom cover come loose if you just take out all the screws that are visible from underneath? I could manage that, I imagine. Seems to easy though... -
Hello everyone,
Im new to the forum. My notebook is an acer 5536G based on the turion x2 rm 74 processor, 3 gb ram, 780g motherboard and an ati hd4570 graphics processor.
I had a dual boot system with windows vista ultimate sp2 and windows 7 RTM installed. Ive been facing some problems with it from the past week or so.
older games such as Quake 3 Arena hang a lot where the frame rate falls to 2 fps or even 0 for a few seconds and then again goes up..
this happens not only in games but even in videos. if i play a video then it starts up normally and then the frames drop miserably within a min or so and then after 5-6 seconds it becomes normal, and in a few moments again it stutters..
I checked the performance tab under the task manager and it shows 100% cpu usage for a few seconds even if i run light applications.
The notebook stutters a lot in almost every task. there are even slight pauses when browsing through folders, or even moving the cursor of the mouse for that matter. Nothing is working smoothly.
Also its been only one and a half months since ive bought this and ealier everything worked perfectly well.
Oh yes i tried formatting the system and installing windows xp sp3 and windows 7 but then again windows 7 hangs way too much (even more than before) and for windows xp - it jerks quite a bit till the bootscreen loads up. once the system opens slowly it gets a little better but after a few mins of gaming or converting a video or even creating an archive using winrar, the system shuts down abruptly.
could anyone help me out?
I tried undervolting the processor but it didn't help.. And i read on the previous page about the hardware mod but im too scared to do it.. Is there any alternative? -
Install a program that monitors your temperatures, such as Hardware Monitor. If your CPUs are above 95 degrees, thet will throttle down. I also believe that if the temp reaches 105 degrees or so (not sure about the exact temp for this system), the system will power down.
However, if your temps are normal, you could have a virus. Not very likely though, since you have tried reinstalling several OSes. -
Yes i dont have a virus.. Ive scanned the entire hdd with BitDefender 2010 and AVG 9 but didint find any threats... On the funnier side, AVG 9 was probably too much for the notebook to handle so the system turned off automatically after about half an hour of scan.. btw I have HWmonitor and the temperatures it reports are around 55-60 degrees centigrade when idle and under load the last i could see was 99 degrees centigrade..
So what do you suggest? Will Acer be able to fix this problem or will they return it as it is and a hardware mod will be necessary..? :S -
and yes.. there's another thing that's kind of irritating.. when powering it up.. on the BIOS screen the system halts for like 5 odd seconds till something like "mouse initialised" appears and then the system proceeds to the boot screen.. Earlier it was way too quick. The BIOS screen would not halt anywhere and even while loading windows it was comparatively very fast than it is now.. Is this again due to the overheating thing..??
-
Seeems like something might be broken then.
-
Dont say that.. Is it repairable or should I throw it out the window?? lol
-
It seems to me this should be covered by the warranty.
-
Nope It comes of this order
1)Screws from the bottom(hdd,cddrive)
2)Top speaker plastic cover
3)Keyboard
4)Wifi from bottom (its antenna from top)
5)display
6)top cover
7)small component on lower right corner
8)motherboard -
please dont do it like i did, i used a power drill to drill some holes where the fan is .. almost destroyed the laptop! and the fan stopped working.
, got a new one and now the temp does not go over 92 with cpustab test "cpu warmup.

I need instructions for this...... My Acer overheats and shuts down even when I play games that are well within the system requirments....... where they thinking?

Hey guys,
Sorry for bumping an old thread here, but I need a bit of help with this. I've got an Acer Aspire 5536 and I'm wondering if anyone could tell me its ventilation set-up? I can't figure it out, does it blow out hot air at the bottom or does it blow it out at the sides?
I've noticed heat spots on the bottom which could really do with cooling down so I'm thinking of getting a laptop cooler. Depending on the ventilation system though, I really don't know which one to buy...could anyone help me out with this, maybe recommend me a cooler?
Thanks a lot!
-Louis -
If you have it you should be able to check it but anyway- in 99% of cases (at least in Acer department) air intake is at the bottom and exhaust at the side or rear of the notebook.
Take a look here for a cooler buyers guide. -
Awesome, thank you very much for the help and quick reply
