If the battery is causing a problem then there might be a problem with the battery.

I had a faulty battery where it caused Windows to run very slowly. I think it was because Windows was trying to find the amount of charge left, and since the battery wasn't working properly, Windows devoted all of the CPU to finding the charge.

I have the same problem. Tried to flash the BIOS with the upgrade DVD. PC went dead. After removing and back installing the battery, PC worked again, no BIOS upgrade. Then downloaded the latest BIOS version from the ACER website. Tried to flash it again. Did not work either. PC did not do anything, but an error message appeared....This is not a battery problem. I will call the service center tomorrow.

    for me worked.
    i did this:
install the flashing software, then run it as administrator, selected the new bios and then flashed.

after reboot was the new bios.

    no no
in Vista, even the user is "administrator"'s rights, it's not fully administrator (UAC). you need to right click and press "run as administrator".

"run as administrator" is not an option in XP. You FIRST installed VISTA and then you flashed the BIOS. I want to flas the BIOS BEFORE I install Vista (as reccomended).

Use the new flash utility that comes with the new BIOS. I tried flashing with the old one and got a BSOD. New one, no problems.

never ever ever flash a bios in an operating system envyroment. Either XP / Vista / *nix etc. Always do it from dos! there is a reason for this! I see all these posts on people screwing up their computers, no wonder why :( I highly suggest you read up on how to do things prior to just "running it".

The reason for updating the bios before installing vista is because you need to make your bios hashes SLP 2.0 compatible. If they are not compatible with SLP 2.0 then you will have a hell of a time registering the operating system after an upgrade

Above all else do a google search. Why do you think it's in my signature??

I actually didn't upgrade to Vista. I used 3236 and updated my BIOS to attempt to fix a different issue.

I called the ACER helpdesk: "Download the BIOS update from the ACER website. Then burn it on a disk. Start up de computer with the disk in it and push F12. Choose startup from disk. The BIOS will flash automaticly. The ACER helpdesk said there were problems flashing the BIOS in XP. Either in VISTA or in DOS." I will try this tomorrow.

    Paco,
But you allready had VISTA running.....Winphlash does'nt work with XP. I called the ACER helpdesk and they told me to burn the winphlash to disk and start up from the disk. But Winphlash is a Windows program????

winphlash is a windows program, together there is also the dos version of it.
check the old ftp of acer they have the winphlash that works with XP (to me does look the same as the vista one). then disable AV and everything, close all the programs, and then run it.

THIS is how it works......: Get rid of ANY antivirus/firewall protection. The (win)flash program in XP works fine, just as the complete upgrade DVD from ACER. I uninstalled PANDA (my internet security) and now downloaded the VISTA beta version. ms to work fine now. PS. Vista runs good on this Acer.
