    Folks,

My laptop ACER Aspire 3022WLMi recently started having difficulties with reading CDs... It can read CDs produced by Verbatim or other companies, but the doesn't want to read cheap CDs... At the moment I am testing a Maxell CD and it reads the CD but very slowly... Any ideas how can I solve the problem? Clean the CD drive? maybe change the firmware of the cd drive? I don't want to send the laptop back to the manufacturer because it will take some time till they will fix the problem... Thanks for any hints!

    Pitt

You could try blowing it out with with a can of compressed air. If there are firmware or ide driver updates, by all means apply them. Could be it just doesn't like crappy discs.

It is a LiteOn drive. You could try Acer's or LiteOn's sites for firmware. I would try Windows Update for the ide drivers.
