hey i have a porlbem with the cd rom drive when i put a cd in it makes funny noise and it cant read the cd. Is there any posability i fix it myself or should i use the warranty and take it to service.![]()

Shiny side downwards and make sure the disc is pushed down properly (I'm assuming it is a tray loader).
If the drive has problems reading any disc then the first action is to carefully clean the lens.
How old is the drive? They are one of the less durable parts of a notebook.

and what OS? Did you recently upgrade drivers, SP1, etc?? -
if your PC is under warranty..... it might be wise to use the warraty service if the above advice doesn't help

it worked fine a few days ago and then sudenly could any program or virus have to do anything with thisk my computer is umm a few months old the lens looks clean yes it hapens to all cd-s i put in.
I have XP but its an vista only laptop now that i want to put vista oni dont know how.

Just a minute ago i put in a CD and it opend it the i put in a DVD and i didnt open then i put in a second dvd and i opend it but now when i put in the second it kinda opens it but it says that nothing is on it -
I hate it when the optical drive start to do that...it's never a good sign..I'd call ACER..

Yep, IMHO your drive is dying, my Compaq 2105 drive does that and I never
replaced it. Sometimes it's fine, mostly it isn't. You will not be able to
use one that is going bad for much, to many crc errors will make files
impossible to copy. Mine only works only when notebook is cold. YMMV.
DVDs and CDs don't hold enough for me to worry about it, I use USB
hard drives.

buy one w/ atleast a 1 YR warranty -
i have a 5 yr warrantyon my computer so they can fix it
