First and foremost, I want to say hi to everyone in this forum as this is my first post in this forum.

    My problem:
My windows was recently corrupted and I'd tried to recover it using the D2D recovery with a DVD but I didn't know that it will format my partition in order to do the recovery so when the screen is stating that it is formatting my partition, I quickly eject the DVD and turn off the laptop.

Now, all the data in the partition has gone and I can't recover it with a data recovery software but a partition which is not there before has suddenly emerge.

    My question:
How do I recover my lost files?

    My system:
Acer Aspire 5594WXMi with Windows MCE installed

Thank You for your attention. :)

    Welcome to NotebookReview.com!!!!

ouch, put the DVD back in and FORMAT your drive. as for getting you files back... well I don't think that's possible.

what is the name of this new partition?

    good luck!

    Thanks for the reply.

Well, the label on the partition is written PQSERVICE

is it really impossible to recover my data? because it is really important to me.

Ok, that partition was put there by Acer. that is the functional partition behind D2D recovery. When you activate D2D it will format your HDD to 'recover' Windows. which according to Acer means: "erase and re copy to factory state".

As soon as you start the process the computer starts from start to finish. since you canceled it, it theoretically leaves some of the data on the disk. but the OS is usually on the start of the disk, which means it or at least enough of it is gone, so it does not matter how hard you try to get it to boot, it won't. I know it is possible to hook up a notebook drive to a desktop PC(with some cables and stuff which I don't know anything about).

There is no way to get the data on the disk back with out connecting it to another computer and I don't even know if there will be anything on the disk, if you try that route.

I REALLY hope that what was on that computer was not that important.

good luck again, and hope it works out.

Thanks, I managed to get an external enclosure for the hard disk and tried to do a recovery using another machine but how do I delete the PQSERVICE partition because I can't get anything from the data recovery software.

You shouldn't delete the PQService partition as this is the D2D recovery partition which allows for the use of ALT+F10.
If you delete that then D2D recovery using the hard drive(i.e pressing alt+f10) will not work anymore and your only windows recovery option then, will be to use the DVDs created when you first turned on the notebook. IMHO pqservice is only about ~4Gb in size and not worth it to delete (doesn't use much space :) ).

hi guys, i hav a aspire 5100 and i got it dual boot with xp. Now, i want to factory reset my Vista(preinstalled) but Alt-f10 thing dont work. when i get into windows recovery environ., after a couple of screens, i am showed the options... startup recovery, complete pc restore and so forth. I select complete pc restore and it shows an error saying- windows did not find any backup...insert the recovery disc or connect right HD. Is this supposed to happen..??..

Note: I dont hav recovery disks...and myPQService partition is intact.
