    Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum and i just purchased a timeline 3810. I am getting a little frustrated with a few things, hopefully someone can help me solve this.

I uninstalled all the extra software that this laptop came with. One problem i am having is every SECOND start up, the computers loads very slow. The next time i turn on the laptop it will load really fast and all the icons and stuff will pop up right away. Then the next time it will be slow again, windows load then only the wallpaper visible, the icons on desktop and the start bar is not there for about 2 mins.

I tried to restart and i noticed it is always on the second start up.

Also i tried to format my laptop with XP on a usb stick. When i get to the set up, it can not detected the harddrive but only the usb stick.

    Thank you

I noticed no one has responded to this post.

I am researching this one and would be very interested in anyone's experience or not with his stated issues.

    Thanks!

Get windows 7, XP doesn't install from a flash drive, and if it does, you need to stream the correct sata drivers i believe.

XP does not natively include the drivers for SATA hardrives you will need to slipstream (integrate) them into the installation. You can install XP from a flash drive although it is not so straight forward. Best bet is to find a guide, try searching some of the Netbook forums, this should be a good place to start as they also have the same problems, no optical drive & XP install.

If you don’t have the SATA drivers required… just disable SATA mode on your BIOS settings. Remember this will reduce your hard disk performance.

Equally you can download the SATA drivers from Acer`s support portal www.Acer.com, just follow the support links, and select your choice of OS.

Personally I would stick with Vista or go to Windows 7, my 3810T runs flawlessly on Acer`s Vista (32) Home Premium image, only requiring the junk software uninstalling, and updating some drivers. There have been some problems with the Timeline`s CPU running at 100% which may explain the initial problems. This was solved by lated BIOS update and graphics drivers, you can search the forum on this one.

return it and get a working laptop. this is just a bad designed bunch of cables and plastic. oh also are you aware of the recall thing? check if yours is also a problematic one.
