I just bought an Acer 6920 yesterday, but i've been having constant freezing problems. I use firefox and it freezes for 2-5 mins at a time then works again.

There was another thread started on this topic but i have no idea what to do.
i bought this laptop because apparently its a bang for the buck. and i have no idea how to fix this problem. Im not that smart when it comes to configuring a computer.

It's normally because of spyware, adware, and/or things you don't want.

Usually when I get a new laptop, the first thing I do is perform a full reformat. That way I can get rid of everything on the hard drive and start all over. But make sure you download and make a copy of your notebook drivers. ;)

    Ah, good point.

Though I never looked at that since 80% of companies put the same crap on those installation discs as well.

But if that's the case, you can always refer to Acer. I'm sure they can help you out juee.

Firefox has a huge security hole in it, I'd uninstall it and see if it solves your problem.

It's suppose to affect 2 and 3, not sure if they've addressed the issues,
don't know about 1. Bugs me that they made a major realease ie. 3.0
with such a huge hole in it. I'll stick with IE7.

juee, do you run a firewall like Zonealarm and antivirus software ?

I use the free version of zonealarm and AVG.

If you have antivirus software let it do a comeplete virus scan.

    Have task manger on.
    Go to the process tab.
    Sort by CPU.
    Use browser again.
See if browsers are really the ones slowing down the computer.

    nothing exceeds 10
taskmgr.exe has the highest and that goes up to 8 sometimes.

my brother suggested that it has something to do with the laptop running at 64 bit

Did you noticed if the laptop freezes when you have opened a web page(s) that contain FLASH(videos, logos, animations, ads)?

Well the fastest and the easiest way is to try them :) If you're running x64 OS, I think Sony Vegas doesn't run properly...

sounds like you should do a repair or a fresh install.
this is done by using alt+F10 at the acer splash screen when its all done you will need to burn the recovery disks.
you will get a nag screen/popup select option 1 as this will give you a full copy of your OS.
make sure D2D is switched on in the bios :D
    all the best,
    Phil :D

but i got everything working fine except for the flash player.
i downloaded the minefield for firefox and that solved my freezing problems

its just annoying because if i use minefield, theres no flash player so when im on youtube i have to use Internet Explorer 7 to watch in flash

i guess you have to make a few compromises to run a 64bit OS for now....

just be happy you have choices.... and in time i'm sure adobe will have a 64bit version of flash working w/ FF3

I'm having the same exact problems with my Acer 6920. How did you get your notebook to stop freezing because Acer Tech support was clueless.
