I just bought an Acer 6920 yesterday, but i've been having constant freezing problems. I use firefox and it freezes for 2-5 mins at a time then works again.
There was another thread started on this topic but i have no idea what to do.
i bought this laptop because apparently its a bang for the buck. and i have no idea how to fix this problem. Im not that smart when it comes to configuring a computer.

It's normally because of spyware, adware, and/or things you don't want.
Usually when I get a new laptop, the first thing I do is perform a full reformat. That way I can get rid of everything on the hard drive and start all over. But make sure you download and make a copy of your notebook drivers. -
i know we see 3 or more people each week who didn't make thier quick restore disks..... -
ScifiMike12 Drinking the good stuff
Ah, good point.
Though I never looked at that since 80% of companies put the same crap on those installation discs as well.
But if that's the case, you can always refer to Acer. I'm sure they can help you out juee. -
but its a brand new laptop.. i still have to reboot it?
how do i use this recovery thing? ... sorry i have no idea how to fix computers. -
Firefox has a huge security hole in it, I'd uninstall it and see if it solves your problem.
James -
is it firefox in general?
i have firefox3 now .. do you think if i switch to 1 or 2 it'll work? -
yeah no the normal internet explorer freezes on me too.
-
It's suppose to affect 2 and 3, not sure if they've addressed the issues,
don't know about 1. Bugs me that they made a major realease ie. 3.0
with such a huge hole in it. I'll stick with IE7.
James -
juee, do you run a firewall like Zonealarm and antivirus software ?
I use the free version of zonealarm and AVG.
If you have antivirus software let it do a comeplete virus scan.
James -
yeah i have AVG pro running on it..
its doing a scan right now.
the internet explorer just froze on me too.
its like it has brain farts every now and then. stops running and then goes back to normal aftr 2-5 mins -
Have task manger on.
Go to the process tab.
Sort by CPU.
Use browser again.
See if browsers are really the ones slowing down the computer. -
nothing exceeds 10
taskmgr.exe has the highest and that goes up to 8 sometimes.
my brother suggested that it has something to do with the laptop running at 64 bit -
Did your computer come with norton ? If so when you uninstalled it, did
you stop it from running first ?
James -
Did you noticed if the laptop freezes when you have opened a web page(s) that contain FLASH(videos, logos, animations, ads)?
-
it came with mcaffe but i switched to AVG. I did a full system scan and no virus.
it freezes with everything.. when im on hotmail, facebook, google.. anything.
Im looking for a 64bit firefox to download. -
Alright I got it to work properly now =)
but does anyone know if freezing will happen to programs like photoshop. Sony Vegas, adobe after effects? -
Well the fastest and the easiest way is to try them
If you're running x64 OS, I think Sony Vegas doesn't run properly...
-
does anybody know how to get adobe flash player on the 64 bit?
-
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=6b3af6c9
says you have to run a 32 bit browser to use it.
James -
the 32 bit browser is the one that has constant freezing problems. so i dont know what to do about that.
Thanks James for all your help, i really appreciate it. -
sounds like you should do a repair or a fresh install.
this is done by using alt+F10 at the acer splash screen when its all done you will need to burn the recovery disks.
you will get a nag screen/popup select option 1 as this will give you a full copy of your OS.
make sure D2D is switched on in the bios
all the best,
Phil -
but i got everything working fine except for the flash player.
i downloaded the minefield for firefox and that solved my freezing problems
its just annoying because if i use minefield, theres no flash player so when im on youtube i have to use Internet Explorer 7 to watch in flash -
i guess you have to make a few compromises to run a 64bit OS for now....
just be happy you have choices.... and in time i'm sure adobe will have a 64bit version of flash working w/ FF3 -
all i could find on the subject was this.
sounds like you have to play the waiting game

ok the freezing is coming back. and i don't know what to do.
does anyone know the exact drivers i should download for the Acer 6920? -
Check this thread, especially the last 2-3 pages.
