I started having problems with my DVD drive. Movies start to freeze after and hour of play or at certain points, heat issues maybe.
After my recent reformat i cant play all DVDs anymore becuase of Regional copyright issues, i didnt have this problem before reformat. Also one of my data dvds isnt loading at all, could regional setting have done this? I checked region on this DVD drive and its Region 1, is this standard for ASPIRE 5670 or not. Becuase i cant watch any dvds i could before if i use DVD players like Windows media player.

Don't use windows media player use Media Player Classic or some other 3rd party player like Power DVD. This is most likely a codec and or software issue not a hardware issue from the sounds of it.

You can also try Any DVD by slyslot to remove the regional settings.

You most likely were missing Mpeg-2 or Mpeg-4 video codecs on the new install. Coming from your situation I can attest that for the thousands of windows installs I've done in my lifetime I've almost always had to include some 3rd party player by default (either software or codec) to get them to play by default.

There is nothing wrong with your drive, it was just a simple software problem.
