I own an acer aspire 5310. it has an intel celeron processor from factory, but i am a games person and would like to change the processor. Would i be able to insert an amd athlon processor straight into the motherboard? Would i need to get an amd with the same clock speed as my factory one?

    :nah: NOOOOOOOOOO!! no you cant!!!

:( there are so many things that is wrong with that... i will list the major things that is wrong with that idea.

:confused:you cant change processor with different brand.

if you've got intel, you gotta stick with intel. amd, is amd. this is because of the many reasons which include, the cpu socket is different.

 is the processor soldered into the motherboard or not.

 there are certain power and heat limitation.

 why do you want athlon?

they are desktop processor; that means they are HOT! for AMD its best if you go for Turion. if you're a games person, you want intel. the core2duo is the best you can get for laptop. or desktop for that matter...

:( its funny you say you are a "games person" and dont know this. have you even build a desktop computer yourself before?

No, if you can upgrade at all (that is, if the CPU isn't soldered onto the motherboard), it won't work for the following reasons:

    1) your motherboard is only compatible with Intel CPUs
    2) any CPU you choose to upgrade to must share the same physical socket type

I believe you could upgrade to a Pentium M, Core Duo, or Core 2 Duo, but not without some research; it may involve flashing the BIOS (a risky operation in itself), but you'll need to run CPU-Z to make sure what kind of Celeron M you're running (Celeron Ms come in Dothan, Yonah and Merom based architectures).
