Hey guys. I have some concerns,
this is the link
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=360090426337&ssPageName=STRK:MESO:IT&ih=023
I bought from, he sent it out already, he didn't respond to my emails (I sent out few, but other qeuistions i asked, he responded already)
It says 5920-6313, isn't suppose to be 5920G-6313? (G has nvidia, non has intel)
Please inspect the page, the seller does have a high rating, only 2-3 negatives because the buyers that were literlaly idiots.
Is that the right model I am getting? or am I SOL
-
You got the right one. With the 8600M GT.
Chipset: PM965.
Normally G is not mentioned when the full model no. is given.
Here is a similar 6313. -
ah ok, great well the seller kinda slapped me in the face, saying that i dont need to worry lol. thanks
-
BTW, Should I upgrade the processoR? I might purchase a 75-120 processor in eBay. Anyone recommed anyhting?
T7100, is around $118-120, I can get a 8100 for $200 lol, 9500 for $300 breaking a leg..
but seriously, im just doing youtube, IM, and DoD: Source/CS: Source/battlefield 2 and Call of Duty 4.
maybe VERY light video editing. Am I going to see the performacne I would expect from the money I am putting in?
Also, should iget 3GB ram or stay with 2gB? -
You'll need a good processor for those games.
DoD (File-erase ?) If so, that needs processing power too.
The T5250 is a bit weak, and a T8100/T8300 should be fine for the above tasks. The Penryns run cool, and undervolt very well, hence provide a good battery life.
If Vista, see if you can get a cheap 2GB module with a lifetime warranty. (Then 2+1GB config)
Upgrading the HDD gives the max performance boost in windows. Any current-generation 320GB/250GB/160GB 7200RPM drive will be good. -
I really don't like to spend too much money on computers, you know what I mean?
Like, seriously T5250 is that bad?
Should I install XP or Stay with Vista + 3GB Setup?
HDD I don't really mind. -
In that case, the original/base config will work fine, but a bit slow in some cases. If you want XP and can get the XP drivers, then 2GB RAM will be more than enough.
-
BTW Andy, (and future responders) thanks for the advice, I really do value your knowledge.
I'll get 2GB of ram from newegg for $28 lol.
160gb hd is fine and the speed isnt that valuable to me in gaming, because ill be playing in one map 24/7 servers (no level changes)
for the processor... ehhhHHH~~~~~ im not sure, I did put "Testing WaterS" thread in for sale, I will see what I get offered. -
Extra RAM will be necessary only if the current RAM config is bottlenecking performance, or your RAM usage in Vista is more than 70-80%. I am running Vista Ultimate 64 on one of my old laptops with 2GB RAM, just fine.
Regarding the CPU, the performance boost will be noticed only in CPU-intensive tasks, i.e. some of the games and tasks you mentioned. If you can get a cheap, used, working T8100/T8300 for about $120-150, then consider upgrading. Here is a benchmark list of CPUs. These 2 CPUs undervolt very well, and hence you can reduce their power consumption without affecting their performance.
Normally a fast HDD provides the max boost in overall performance in windows. Check out this review, and these drives are quite cheap atm (~$100). -
WHAT?!! 821 (T2080) vs 801 (T5250) i had a t2080, in my toshiba. omg i am freaking upgrading this, piece of crap. Why is the processor so bad in a good machine?
-
That processor is right at the start of the Socket P Merom Series. The most weakest Socket P Core 2 Duo.
And you bought one of the base configs of that model. There are 5920s that come with T8300/T9300s. -
Here are links I found from eBay
http://cgi.ebay.com/Intel-Core-2-Duo-Mobile-Processor-P8400-CANTIGA-CPU_W0QQitemZ330274606689QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item330274606689&_trkparms=72:1205|39:1|66:2|65:12|240:1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 -
Oh no. That is incompatible. The P8400 is for the newer PM45 chipset Montevina Platform.
Your notebook has the PM965 chipset. Search for T8100; T8300; T9300; T9500. -
I don't understand the model numbers.
T5750, T8100, T7500 has around same benchamrk, what are the difference? The prices are same too -
That is because they have almost the same clock frequencies. CPU cache doesn't matter much, as all applications cannot make use of it.
The T8100 is better in the sense, that it is based on a newer architecture, is the slowest of the Penryns, runs cooler and undervolts better.

Oh ok, so BEST thermal output for the money i have is a 8100?
-
Yep, a T8100, or the sightly more powerful T8300. If you can get a good deal on the T9300 (150 bux or so), thats a beast.
Checkout this CPU. -
lol T8100s are $200 and $275 for T9300 $215 for T8300 in ebay.
how would you get t9300 for only 150 dollars? -
You'll have more of a chance in auctions. I got X9000s for $200 or so.
Go slow on the upgrades, and wait for a deal.
And do not sell the parts you remove after upgrading. Keep the original parts with you and reinstall them whenever you send the notebook back for servicing. -
Oh ok, btw is replacing the CPU easy on the 5920? Do you have experience or no? Just wondering, but hey most importantly ill see when i get it, if im happy maybe i wont have to upgrade at all.
-
Hahaha....Yeah, depends if you're satisfied with the current CPU's performance. HDD and RAM upgrades give more of an overall boost in performance and are much cheaper.

Yea, Thanks very much Andy, I really appreciate your help, I'll post back here when I actually get it (if i get it in one piece that is
)
Purchased an 5920-6313
