Since my 4-year-old Dell XPS M1330 died (known issue with the GeForce 8400 chip, apparently) I did some quick research and ended up buying an Acer 3820TG. After reading a bit on the net I also decided to simply move the SSD (with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit) from my old laptop to the new one.
After a number of reboots everything seems to work fine except two small issues:
* Boot is extremely slow, but not login. Basically the computer is useless for 5 minutes after I've input my password.
* Device Manager shows that I'm missing the Virtual WiFi Miniport driver. How do I know which WiFi driver to install? The App/Driver DVD has many to choose from.
The exact model is Aspire 3820TG-5454G32n LX.PXZ02.003.

Hi,
you may check the eventlog if there are errors.
Apart from that, I'd rather recommend to wipe the drive and do a fresh installation. The hardware of your Dell is too different from that of your new Acer.

Will check the logs, thanks. Even if they may be too cryptic for me...
Moving the harddrive went surprisingly smooth, actually. Video (with switching), sound, wifi, lan, usb, cpu, bluetooth all check out. The slow boot I can live with right now since I mostly use hibernation anyway. Device manager only shows one little warning (as mentioned before).
Put old SSD in 3820TG, slow boot and missing miniport
