Is this a good buy for $600? An old girlfriend of mine needs a new laptop and she doesn't have a clue about anything related to PC's and I'm wondering if this would be a good buy for her. She doesn't want to spend anything over $600 so we went out looking today and came across this deal at Best Buy. I was telling her that maybe we could find something better online and then when I checked these boards just now it looks like that might actually be a pretty good deal? I'm hoping you Acer fans can point me in the right direction![]()
Thanks!

Edit: She wants either a 14 or 15 inch laptop that she can play with her little camera videos and photos with.

That's a good budget laptop for $600. You can find more cheap laptops in the Laptop Deals section.

So you think it's a good deal then? You wouldn't jump on some other laptop for $600? I've really only been whoring around Sony and Dell so I don't know a whole lot about anything else haha =)
Thanks for the quick reply by the way. -
thats a fantastic deal for $600 - no other laptop offers that speed with hard drive and ram (160gb/dual core 1.7ghz/2GB ram) for only $600. the dell's vostro and inspirion are all about $600 for 1gb and 120gb hard drive.
even on ebay i could not find a single laptop cheaper than that with the same specs - the only ones i could find close at all was with 1Gb of memory and i think 2gb of memory is more important than both the hard drive space or the speed - and all 3 are pretty good on this laptop
my friend just bought that today, and if you get the canon ip1800 with it, it goes from $60 - $10 - instant off.
it may be a cheap brand, but the specs are good -
Thanks a ton! Repped as well.
I just happened to notice the deal Dell is having on the Vostro 1400 and it looks like the processor is a bit faster and the whole system runs a bit faster things to improved bus speeds. The video card is a x3100 instead of the Acer's 950 which seems like it would help things out a bit. Granted the hard drive is a 120 gig instead of the Acer's 160 but I doubt that will ever matter.
Which would you guy's purchase? I specced out the Dell a couple times for her and it looks easily comparable and the positives might outweight the negatives? -
i think 2gb of memory is def better than 1 by far on vista.
yes, you can upgrade the memory and the hard drive, but for the same price you get more ram and more hard drive.
but yes, the x3100 is better than the 950. - up to you bud -
The Vostro has 2 gigs of memory though, faster memory.
Hmm... I'm just going to spell all this out for her and let her decideThanks again!
The nicest thing about the Best Buy Acer is that we can just go pick it up tomorrow if we want to.
