I just bought a Ferrari 4005. I couldn't get auto-recovery to work. I pressed Alt-F10 before and after POST (with the F1 boot picture). Any idea?
Also, does anyone else find that their keyboard is really clicky?

Haven't had to use the Auto-Recovery feature, but did want to comment on the keyboard: it is a little clicky, but I certainly wouldn't describe it as 'really clicky' - in fact, I would say it is just about average if not slightly below in volume. It seems very responsive, which is a welcome change from many problematic laptop keyboards, and though it could be a bit quieter, I'm certainly pleased with it overall - no missing keystrokes, etc. There's nothing more aggrivating than dealing with a keyboard that is constantly not producing the characters it should when a given key is pressed.
One last thought - why do you need access to the auto-recovery feature if you just bought it??? -
Well. I always test all features of a new laptop to discovery any problem early on. This includes auto-recovery. However, it turns out that I actually needed auto-recovery this time around. I installed the new omega drivers, which complete froze my system. I still haven't figured out why that is.
BTW, regarding the keyboard, it's clicky to the extent that simply resting my fingers on the keyboard causes some keys to settle down and click. Somewhat annoying and detracts from this beautiful laptop. Ah well. Nothing is perfect. I could nitpick all I want and complain why Acer didn't include an illuminated keyboard with light sensor, such as the one in PowerBooks. -

Yes, I do not know why more manufacturers do not follow Apple's lead and put in illuminated keyboards - I'd pay a huge amount of money for that type of feature!
Hm, that's odd that the Omega drivers messed up your computer. I suggest that next time you go to DriverHeaven.net and get the official ATI Catalyst Mobility 5.10 drivers. They are more stable.
Can you boot into Safe Mode? Hit F8 when you boot up until a selection screen comes up, then select "Safe Mode". It will boot up into a very primitive version of Windows so you can get rid of the Omegas. -
Thanks Chaz. I had sorted out the problem. I used Acer's Windows-based recovery software after I removed Omega drivers -- to start on a clean slate.
I'd really like to know why boot-time auto-recovery doesn't work for me. I've tried hitting Alt-F10 at various times before Windows starts to load, but to no avail. -
Heh. A bit of a silly question. I'd like to keep things clean and I noticed that the Ferrari picks up quite a bit of sweat and grease. What do you guys use to clean it up? The rubber surface clings onto the microfiber cloth, making it difficult. Any recommendation?

While not exactly the same as Apple's solution, ThinkPads do have the ThinkLight. It is a little light on the top of the LCD frame which illuminates the keyboard in dark lightling situations. It works quite well.
