    Hello all,

I am new to this forum, and I just have a few questions because I put a deposit down on an ACER 5672WLMI 120G version. I am quite happy with the specs for the notebook, but I am worried because I am reading around the forums and some people say that notebookoutlet (place i bought it) sells refurbished models without telling the customer.

How would I know that the model I receive is refurbished or not. Will it come in its original box? Will there be an authentic acer seal on it?

On another note, they had to "order it", but they had the 5672 100G version in stock. Is there any way of finding out if they just opened up the 5672 100G version that they have in stock and popped in some ram and a larger HD? I do not want them tampering with it.

The only reason I chose notebookoutlet is because they are "official resellers" of acer, and the prices they have are quite good.

    Thanks!

You can just call them and ask them. It's not like they're untouchable or anything. They should send it to you sealed unless you asked for modifications. As for selling refurbs without telling you, is pretty wrong and can be problems for them. Just check if it's listed as NEW or not.

Don't worry about them opening up the 100 GB model and upgrading stuff. I can't see it being worth any resellers time to open a laptop and install a $150-$200 drive, and ram. When it would cost them a lot less to just order the right model.

Btw, it your so worried about it, get your deposit back if you can and buy it from someone else. Spending a few extra bucks to get peace of mind is worth it. And from your e-mail I would be one to push you on an extended warranty, from acer not joe blow's fix-it or replace it shop.

    Dan.

Only the MOST unscrupulous dealer would sell the way you fear, simply because it's fraud and punishable as any serious crime (probably a felony, as well, since they're likely selling across state lines).

Note also that they'd have to go to some serious lengths to falsify things, as well, because if Acer's like other vendors, the serial number correlates to the model and thus the specifications. So, if they were to swap parts, they'd also have to put on fake stickers and such. Ultimately, I'm sure Acer would be able to track that back pretty easily, thus (at least) relieving them of their Acer reseller status.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I went to the place and asked them if they sell refurbished stuff. He said no... and that it might be "reconditioned" meaning that they might open the box to check if any daamge has been done to the laptop. (especially in cases where the box on the outside has been daamged).

Anyways, i'll find out tomorrow what happens, cause i'm picking up tomrro.

"Reconditioned" still falls in the same category as "Refurbished". No matter how you sugar coat it, it's still not New or Sealed by Manufacturer.

So which one are you getting? There is actually 3 versions of it. The 100gb XP Home, 100gb XP Pro, and the 120gb w/2gb RAM XP Pro.
